My first poll had a typo and that's unacceptable, so there's a new poll up : )
This is one of the more interesting matchups we've had so far, IMO. Each team knocking on the door of the top 25, vying for a tourney bid. And the return of Kid Block to Huff Hall in the enemy's colors!
Also, a bunch of stuff in the OP is hyperlinked to the team websites so mouse over them for more info.

I think I am particularly excited for this game to see if Illinois offense can expose some of the holes in Michigan's blocking, which can be hit or miss depending on A) what Mich brings from the service line nd B) if the ILL passers are dialed in. Either way should be a fun one! Bang out pins on both sides of the net!

Is there a chance any of the Illini injured players will see the court this weekend or, more to the point, this year? Hinton’s blocking would be particularly helpful.

It's the battle for 7th place in the B1G and #25 on the VT Top 25! This isn't a make or break match for either team with regards to an at-large bid; they play each other again next month in A2 and they both have plenty of opportunities on their remaining schedules to bolster their resumes. But these two teams are mirrors of each other and it will be interesting to see how it plays out. I'll give the edge in this one to the Illini at home. Go Blue!

Actually, I think you underestimate both of these teams. Michigan split 5-setters with Minnesota, and Illinois split 5-setters with Purdue. The fact all 4 matches went 5 says the wins weren't flukes, and that they both have enough weapons to compete at a high level. The fact is that the 3rd-6th places in the B1G are not as dominant as they have been in recent years. Either or both of these teams could be in that mix, and not just 7th, when the dust clears at the end of the season. |
