Utah did not show up against ASU, and neither Drews nor Maddy had a great match. They will show up against Arizona, and get back on track.

I agree. I think Utah's loss to ASU was bad for Arizona. I don't expect the Utes to lose 2 straight at home to teams in the bottom half of the conference.

Utah plays solid to win set one 25-19. Utah lead by Drews with 6 kills. AZ struggling with their hitting percentages so far.

Utes take 2nd set 25-18 routinely. Utes lead by Drews with 8 kills, and the middles hitting 11-1. AZ lead by Maldonado with 8 kills Hodge again struggling, hitting 0.

Utah finishes off AZ in 3, winning the 3rd 25-21. Utes lead by 13 kills. Utah middles were very effective going 14-2. AZ lead by Maldonado with 12 kills. AZ used a lot of players on their roster to try to spark AZ, but it didn't quite get them there.

I think part of that was to spark them, part of it was to avoid fatigue and part of it was to get experience. They had that hellish trip to Colorado on Friday, then they played 4 sets (including that 37-35 set) against the Buffs that had some lengthy rallies.

I don't talk to Rubio after the match on the day they travel home, but every other match he has done this in he has told me that he especially needs his freshman middles to get experience. Fellows and Weidt are both seniors and earlier this season he made it sound like they will move on rather than take advantage of the 5th year. That could have changed, but there are both financial and roster composition reasons for Arizona not to offer that 5th COVID-19 year.

Yeah makes sense to get others players in the match for some experience, or even just to mix it up when players on the court aren't producing. Hopefully Arizona can turn it around this weekend. They have a lot of talent, but don't seem to be all clicking at the same time in matches. ASU has shown that at anytime you can turn it around, so AZ is capable of it too.
