yeah we just smacked around Penn State, Illinois and Purdue who all the other top teams had trouble with. Not a true threat, just lucky those three times. Also I wasn’t aware we had another big ten home loss girlie I defended y’all but don’t throw around that Illinois win as all that. They have now gone 5 with iowa, Rutgers AND northwestern im not saying it’s all that but then they beat Penn State and Purdue. We’re the only team to have swept them. I think it’s notable enough to include

Big win for Gophers with some nice things to keep building on. 1. Wenaas and CC were fabulous (and Samedy was Samedy). 2. They clearly won the serve/receive battle. 3. Fantastic defensive court coverage. 4. Just enough blocking presence to make Nebraska think twice. Nebraska has a class program with great talent and a legendary coach. They are in a bit of a slump and have rough edges to fix. If Cook can do that they'll go far in the tourney (but it still looks like a 2-horse race between Texas and Wisc).

Another team succumbs to the the Road-Trip-Of-Death. Sorry Nebraska, you are good, but WI + MN is the toughest back-to-back pair in the conference. Wisconsin vs Nebraska was in Lincoln, not Madison. Not a "road trip". (And it wasn't Friday-and-Saturday "back-to-back", like it would usually be.)

1. Was someone yelling "fault" every time Minnesota served? 2. Wenaas clearly the player of the game. 3. Samedy not overly impressive tonight on offense. 4. Nebraska defense is just outstanding. 5. Why can't Minnesota be better at closing out with a big lead? 6. I hope they didn't kill the poor wee spider.

I don't get the both-teams-sucked narrative. It was frustrating, as I imagine most sporting contests are when they're more about defense than offense, but it was fun watching those 200+ digs extend points.

The spider in the towel was TRULY the highlight of this match. Wasn’t a spider. Some sort of flying bug that went up to the balcony area.

As a Nebraska fan, I'm sure you have a good defense but our offensive execution was also not up to par. Our passing was really bad compared to what I know we're capable of. I think Hames didn't have a great game either, but considering the passing it's hard to blame her. I don't watch enough of Minnesota's game to know for sure, but to me it looked like you had a lot of great passes and digs ruined by sub-par sets, putting your hitters in worse position. You just need to count the number of unforced errors on both teams' side. I don't think this was a well played game.

I don't believe our setting is any secret here at Minnesota. As a result, our hitters are unable to "put the ball away" so it becomes HUGH'S LOW ERROR BALL TO WIN. Unfortunately, we have had to play that way for going on two seasons. But hats off to our Minnesota girls who were able to pull out a win against Nebraska at home tonight.

Good serving creates bad passes, solid blocks force hitters to hit out, etc. I don't think either team was at their best but that's because their opponent was making them look bad.

105 digs in the match for MN, 96 for Neb. I'm interested to see the rest of the stats. 107-97, I think. If I'm reading right, less than 20 short of the NCAA record.

People hanging around the match afterwards all talking about the high level of play, tremendous defense and grit from both teams.
Then I get home and start going through the Volleytalk pages for the match. Shaking my head.

You just need to count the number of unforced errors on both teams' side. I don't think this was a well played game. Nebraska had 36 attack errors, 10 of which were Gopher blocks. So, 26 unforced errors out of 237 total attempts. Minnesota had 26 attack errors, 14 of which were Husker blocks. So, 14 12 unforced errors out of 197 total attempts. Not sure those are really that high — and, as Spikerthemovie noted, nothing happens in a vacuum. (Edit, because 26-14 is not 14)
