I got my lazy butt down to McLin gym to watch Wright State for the first time this year.
First of all, whoever it was that decided to put endzone seats on both sides of the gym. Kudos, and thank you. I was dead center in the end zone seats.
It was also senior night, so they paid fitting tribute to 5 seniors. The opponent this afternoon was UW-Green Bay, who was much better than their record indicate. They went off to a 8-0 lead in the first and won by that margin.
This was one of the things that impressed me about Wright State, they never panicked and they worked away at the deficit.
I think they fell behind in every set, not to the same deficit but enough for me to wonder what the heck was going on. Their physicality started to dominate and they won in 4. Both teams blocked well and play great defense, I think the difference was that Wright State was able to sustain the defensive pressure.
Some players of note:
I am very glad I went. The level of play at Wright State keeps going up every time I go watch through the last ten years.

Some players of note:
- #7 MH Nyssa Baker in the middle was stellar. She had all the shots and they often ran slides successfully when the setter was front row.
- #3 OH Sam Ott. The impressive thing was her hard cross shots hitting in front of the 3m line in zone 4. Wicked shots. I am not sure if they were trying to set her just outside the pins but she can cut that ball.
- #6 DS Jenny Morey. Since I was watching from the end zone, I saw the bottom drop out her standing float.
- #2 S Lainey Stephenson. Her hip was wrapped, but I didn't know what her injury was, she made great decisions, picked up more than her load on defense, and fed the big dawgs. Her out of system bump sets to LF while going the opposite direction was amazingly on target, giving the hitters a wide window to hit through. Really, I was the most impressed with her play.
