Is Swanson hurt for the Illini? Good blocking middle would have been helpful tonight. Kyla wasn't at Huff tonight- not sure why she was absent. She's been really effective for the Illini and was missed.

The leads weren't huge or super late in the set, but still, Illinois had leads mid-set to a little after and failed to close any of them - really getting overwhelmed at the end of all the sets.

I have no idea why people think this. It’s been very effective many times this season. I wish Nicklin didn’t set it in system when I’m more optimistic that our front row attackers could terminate more efficiently, but that’s more on Nicklin than Kenzie. It’s been a good option in OOS and has been that option on some really big and important long rallies. Knuckles is a poor choice unless she is ONLY choice!! Its fun for fans and announcers: its a poor plan for success! I like that she is getting about 1 attack per set. 79 attacks in 76 sets is not enough that they are relying on her to score, but is enough to keep some threat from the back row when Madi isn't there.

We match up well against Illinois and Penn State. Not so much against Minnesota. Meh. I think we matchup just fine against Minnesota. We just had a bad night and struggled serving. Stylistically I feel we match up really really well against Minnesota. We did well against them even in the SSS days. I feel like we even had a good plan, we just had a bad night and Weenas had a really good night.

I think I'd still prefer a back row set to Knuckles that looks somewhat in system vs. a terrible set to the OH that our hitters will end up rollshotting. Sometimes that's the choice and you want the honest swing in most cases. That said with Lexi back there, I don't think Lexi's numbers are that far off Knuckles such that I might let Lexi play all the way around. (At least some of the time if they want offense back there)

lauren serving gives me "stepping over the line" anxiety I’m always confused as to why they have stivrens serve from time to time. You completely lose your floor defense on that side of the court. This did not age well

She did not elaborate. Coach Cook has commented positively on Knuckles serving prowess and court leadership, so I suspect she will continue to get playing time. Sun played a very good game last night and looked like a 5th year senior doing it. IMO NE is a better team with her on the court at OH. Optimistic for the rest of the season.

Just watched match. I thought Nebraska's passing was dismal at times, Nicklin running a lot. It looks as though the armswings of both Krause and Kubik have a little more speed than usual. Sun played very confidently and hope she continues this run in November, we're gonna need it. Our block and D looked good.

Tamas continues to do a lot with what he has. We missed Swanson from Wahoo! We had one rotation that was not very productive. Setter Brown should have been setting the back row attack more during that rotation. Particularly to give Raina Terry more swings. Megan Cooney seems to be in a bit of a slump the last few matches. Watching Raina Terry's development this season, made me imagine how she would have been the centerpiece if Purdue's Shondell coached this team. In seasons past, Shondell would have one player who received the majority of sets no matter where they were on the floor. That has not been the case at Purdue the last couple of years due to the Boilers having more hitting talent than in past years.
I must admit I was entertained by watching the coaching styles of Tamas and Cook during the match. Tamas is actually a protege of Cook's (along with having worked for one or two other B1G coaches). Cook stayed seated except during team huddles. He would grimace almost every time Nebraska made an error or Illinois scored a point. Tamas usually gives some indication of how well Illinois is doing in a match by whether he is standing or sitting. I believe he stood almost the whole match. At home matches, Tamas' back is to me, but I have noticed in matches where I can see his face that he seldom grimaces or gives any visible signs of disappointment in an Illini error. I like that about his coaching style. If I were a player, I would appreciate that behavior.

I have a hard time appreciating all the play when at matches (and I haven’t seen the stats), but I wonder if Nebraska put special effort into defending Cooney. In the past she has done well against the Huskers. Kudos to the Illini on some great play. Terry especially was fierce on the attack—that’s the most missed digs by Rodriguez I can recall seeing this year. Definitely tough serving by the Huskers—about the best I recall in quite some time. Multiple SEs by UI didn’t help them either. Illinois defended the Nebraska middles as well as anyone to date, maybe better. Don’t think I’ve seen Stivrins stuffed that many times before. She made up for it with several digs and aces down the final stretch. “Libero Stivrins” as someone else said. All that said, watching live it seemed as if the Hames to middles connections were a bit off at times. Good luck to the Illini the rest of the way, and especially Saturday night against the Gophers (we were walking right behind Coach Tamas as we exited the court at Huff and I shouted this at him too, but I don’t think he heard).

My guess is that most Nebraska fans in the know have a lot of respect for Chris Tamas' coaching ability. While getting swept is always hard to take -20 -20 -21 isn't exactly a blowout either. Best of luck to the Illini the rest of the season.

I was at the match, Illinois definitely struggled early but looked better after the mid point of the firsts et. Match was somewhat light on attendance but that's to be expected for a weekday. Illinois looked better than when I last saw them, particularly in passing. I didn't expect to win but thought we should have one at least one set. Very frustrating to have leads in the 2nd and 3rd then blow them. I really don't know what the answer would be, maybe having a really terminal hitter? Cooney got targeted a lot when she was in the back. Nebraska's defense was phenomenal, just could not believe how many balls that they tracked down for an amazing save then ultimately win the point. That said it didn't seem like they were an unstoppable juggernaut like years past. Probably just need a year or two of development. I thought Lexi played great, I was cheering for her. I so wanted to go and say hi but I decided against it, didn't want to annoy her. Silver lining was my mom got to see her beloved huskers win a game, despite her not caring at all about volleyball, and talk to some husker fans. Next year will setup a rendezvous for husker fans at a local eatery. Black dog is fine but it's is just barbeque, I feel like its kind of over-rated.
Also I doubt the old geezer driving the bus last night that ran a red light and almost T-boned me while making a left turn reads this volleyball board but damn you nearly ended my mom and my lives! If you are getting too old to drive a bus safely then it's time to retire. And no, it wasn't turning yellow and he was just unable to slow down (I have more sense than to try that), it had turned from red to green and I had a left turn light but he failed to notice the light was still red on his side and just blazed on through. I think he assumed because the cars coming from my direction were moving, he had a green light. Probably was on mental autopilot. Thankfully I was able to react in time but my life definitely flashed before my eyes. Praise god.
