The Card started to find some rhythm as the OSU match went along, and while they were swept by the Ducks, all 3 sets were decided by 2 points. And while they got swept in Seattle, the first two sets were two-pointers as well. That said, and as a big Stanford fan, if I were a betting person, I'd have a tough time betting on the home team tonight. Regarding player availability, I have no idea -- Kipp and Miner seemed fine enough last week, so I'm expecting them. I have no idea on Lougeay; Fidelek was passing balls in hitting warmups last week but some have rumored she wants to take a redshirt year; and Xu was hobbling in a boot (which didn't seem encouraging). A. Smith should be pretty close from her hand injury (unless she wants to redshirt?); no idea on L Smith (ditto); and I think that's everyone? The article in the front says it’s senior night for Campbell and Fidelak

Rumor was that Lougeay would likely return this weekend, but does that include tonight? Even if she returns, I doubt she has practiced much, so her passing might be rough. In Lougeay's absence, Beaven has taken Lougeay's DS1 role, and Berty has taken Beaven's DS2 spot. Obviously Berty is not the most agile of backrow players, but without knowing her passing numbers, my perception is that she has been ok at that skill.

Both teams have "guns" who can terminate, if they can pass:
Stanford: Baird (3.81), Kipp (3.63), Francis (2.98)
Washington: Hoffman (3.84), Drechsel (3.56), Grote (2.11)
UW has a habit of having to dig themselves out of holes of their own making. Which team will we see this weekend? The team that steamrolled ASU and UA? Or, the team that struggled against USC and got steamrolled by UCLA?

And someone conjectured Fidelak might be doing the grad-transfer thing, so the rumored redshirt year isn't to play at Stanford for one more year; it's to go somewhere else. Or maybe she's still hurt. Or maybe both.
FYI, there is a women's basketball game at 3:00 in Maples today, which hopefully won't go to 14 overtimes...

I hope we see the UW who steamrolled a healthy Stanford just a few weeks ago. I believe I was not alone in saying at the time that that match had been the best-played match for the Huskies all season to date.

Kipp missed the following three matches, so also may not have been 100%.

In fact, I think that was the last match for which that was the case.

Regardless, all the usual starters played for Stanford. In fact, I think that was the last match for which that was the case. We held Kipp close to a kill (2.67 vs 3.63) and almost 50 points (.300 vs .348) under her averages. Yes, some of that was likely due to UW's stifling defense, but I don't think we can rule out that she was playing hurt. Lougeay, their DS, has also been out since the UW match. Miner missed the next two matches, supposedly due to concussion protocol.

If Francis finds her swing and hits over .300, Stanford wins a close match. If Francis hits under .300, Stanford loses. If Francis hits the way she has been lately, the Card gets swept in ugly fashion. Possibly, but I’m more worried about which Baird we are going to see

Card will need their best all around game of the season to pull out a win unless UW makes lots of mistakes.

I just returned from the Stanford driving range so I'm ready for tonight's match. The weather today is absolutely re-dank-u-lous -- 75 degrees, no wind, sky is about is blue as it can be. Hopefully this great weather distracts the Husky women or at least shocks them, because they probably aren't used to this much sunlight.
