Do we know for sure that the Utes are playing Weber, UVU, USU, etc? None of those schools have their OOC schedules posted yet. Yes, they played all of them this weekend at a spring tournament. Yeah I know, I'm the one that posted it. I was replying to the comment that speculated that all of them might beat Utah next year as well.

Did any of you watch the games? Besides that loss, howd the Utes do? Where did they play well, and what did they struggle with? Going to be a transition year likely.

Rumor is they lost to Utah St in their crossover. They finished fourth behind Weber,SLCC, and Utah St. I dont give too much credence to spring tournaments. But it is alarming.

I don't put much stock in exhibitions (for any sport) either, and SLCC is pretty good for a community college, but still.

If the SLCC players were dunking on the Utes during their scrimmage, then why weren't they offered scholarships right there on the spot?

Was Snow College there? A kid on the team I coach said that they were able to watch at UVU this weekend and that Snow beat them as well. They were pretty dang good a couple years ago but come on…. And idk how they got to watch either because I thought it was closed, but I know of 2 different families that got in.
Edit to add: this kid is a silly goose sometimes and may not be accurate about snow being there, that’s why I’m asking.

If you have the right connections, you can get into just about any event.

The Utes lack a terminal hitter besides Maddie Robinson. The other pins aren’t super error prone but they have a hard time putting the ball away. They are trying to replace possibly the greatest Ute of all time, a veteran setter, a right side and two key servers from last year. While they return their middles, they obviously weren’t getting a lot of production last year behind Drews. Without Drews as a go to, it’s going to expose a lot of weakness for a while. I have no doubt they will rebuild in the next couple years back into a team that can at least hang with the top of the PAC, but in the meantime there’s gonna be some growing pains.

Weber, SLCC, USU, Utah, UVU, Dixie St, Snow, Idaho State where all there and it wasn't closed to the public.

UVU advertised this event in this post: I live close to UVU, so I guess I could have checked it out if I had known about it in advance. Oh well.

Yeah, Drews was one of the best players in the entire country, as well as probably the best Ute ever. That's not easy to replace. Also, while Robinson has tons of power and was pretty effective in 2020 (spring 2021), hitting .248, I didn't realize until I just looked it up that she only hit .218 in 2021.

Beth & Company desperately needed a boost to be able to compete in the Pac-12!
