Pretty %*$#ty schedule imo. Too bad we have gone to playing teams like Nebraska, Purdue, San Diego to playing teams like Tennessee State. Yes, the team isn't what they used to be but pretty unfortunate. Hopefully our freshmen can pull us into the top half of the PAC-12. Also, can someone explain to me the Emily Smith slander?!?! She is def the better setter we have. Hammond and the other girl are awful. Smith always led a somewhat decent offense. She is not always the best but she has provided more consistency than the other girls. IMO

Utah going light in preseason, until they establish some pin hitting strength. Will be interesting to what freshmen shine this season.

This team had a losing record last year and is experiencing significant turnover on the pins. Utah scheduling anything other than winnable matches in the preseason not only hurts their own chances of making the tournament (they need to finish above .500 just to have a chance), but significantly impacts the Pac-12's RPI, which hurts all of the other teams that likely will have a .500+ record.

This was the agreement among Pac-12 coaches for years. Because the RPI is such a bogus metric when it comes to measuring team strength, you have to follow certain scheduling principles to help the conference as a whole. That means scheduling to guarantee no more than 1-2 non-conference losses. Dave Rubio always stuck to this. I imagine with Beth being of the same generation, she sticks to it, as well. Not sure why this surprises let alone upsets people.

That's why the Pac-12 is overrated.

They scheduled like their ceiling is a State Title this year. Definitely out of state title contention at this point, losing a combined 1-6 to Utah Valley and Utah State. They still have to play Weber and BYU, and don't get to play Dixie or Southern. 0-4?

It seems like it will be a struggle bus year for Utah. Jardine not being available for today's match vs. USU did not help at all.

Bringing Ramirez back at libero is really positive for Utah. They need to build strength at the pin/setter positions though.

I wonder who was the primary setter 🤔 I don't know the Utah roster all that well, but my memory is it was Grace Hammond (I thought she looked good) most of the time
