Seems like a good chance Shields will be back, she's listed as a Graduate Student. That would greatly help the team, keeping her chemistry with Iman, Claire and especially Marta intact. I know the program isn't to where they were hoping by now, but shoot, I really liked what she was building I did, too. They were starting to threaten top teams the last couple of years, at least on a match-by-match basis. They still had a ways to go on a systemic basis, of course, but it looked like she was headed in the right direction. On the other hand, with the number of kids in the portal, it doesn't reflect well. If you're not actually winning and your kids are leaving in droves, the departments has to at least look at things. I agree with vb1411, though. I can't see Iman or Marta staying. They will be huge gets for someone else. Why would they want to start over again at a program that's been struggling when they could leave and have an impact elsewhere with a team that maybe is just a player away? |

Ok, I am legitimately shocked. I wonder if Sanja and the team had known for a while that she wasn't going to be kept and that's what led to all of the portal entries we've been seeing. Given the recent football HC hire I feel as if ASU wanted to wait until that settled in before putting this out. This might be a reach but ASU should try to bring Macey [Gardner-]Donathan home as the next HC. She's been working as an assistant in some capacity since 2016, first at Liberty for one year under Shane Pinder, then two years under Sanja at ASU, and since 2019 under Jason Watson at Arkansas. |

ASU needs someone who can recruit the hell out of Phoenix. It’s criminal how much talent leaves the state and doesn’t end up at either ASU or UofA.

I thought they'd give her one last go to make the tournament in the final year of the Isanovic/Levinska duo, but they didn't make any progress this year and the exits didn't make the post-next season prospects look too great.

This was a good move. Sanja wasn’t creating a proper culture on the team.
I imagine the next coach will be more personable - which will make ASU retain more local talent and rely less on the stoic former Soviet republics pipeline.
