Grand View looked really good in its season-opening 3-0 win over St. Xavier.

Menlo looked good in their opening matches, and did so without their best OH, Ibrahimovic, who could be a National Player of the Year candidate.
This next week there are plenty of good matchups. Menlo is hosting a tournament with some top teams: Benedictine, Vanguard, Campbellsville, UC Merced. That should be a good indicator of how good each of these teams teams are compared to another.

Campbellsville went 1-1 this past weekend, losing to Limestone College and beating Mount Vernon Nazarene. They looked ok, but may have some trouble on the horizon. Looked like their libero, Jay Montalvo, was on crutches. Not sure what happened exactly, but he's a fairly crucial member of their team I believe...

Campbellsville has the murderer's row schedule coming up this weekend at the Oak Invitational at Menlo. They start out with BenU-Mesa, then play the host, and finish up with Vanguard. They also have a match at The Master's University the night before the tournament starts. That will be a good gauge of how good Master's might be this year.

Montalvo was probably the best libero in the NAIA, and has a wicked serve that always scored points. Hoping for a quick recovery...

Campbellsville showing their west coast trip as cancelled due to COVID protocols. Big hit to their schedule and the teams that were planning on playing them.

Credit them for trying. Their biggest criticism has been strength of schedule. Without this trip, al they have left on their schedule is two matches with a potentially overrated Georgetown team. Point being, they’re currently sitting at 14 (out of the tournament) and there isn’t a lot they can do to help their case outside of hoping for teams in front of them to call off.

Absolutely, kudos to them for trying to get a solid schedule in place. Good news for them is their conference has two automatic bids, so even if they stay in that 12-15 range, they are likely in the tournament as one of the best two teams in the conference. Outside of Georgetown, I don't see any other quality teams. Life, Warner, and Webber have been knocking on the door, but they seem to always fall off.

It will be interesting to see what happens with some of the other teams in that conference. Life University got a new coach I believe, so curious to see if it helps them.

Not a shocker, but Georgetown beat new program Kentucky State 3-0. 25-18, 25-16, 25-11.
More errors than I would have expected on the Georgetown side (around 30, including 14 at the service line).

#12 Missouri Baptist defeats Quincy 25-20, 23-25, 26-24, 27-25 at home Wednesday night in season opener for both teams. OH’s Kastratovic with 20K and Bonte with 13K led the way. Libero Stephen Menzul with a career high 24 digs. Newcomers Jr Stephen Bilkey 12K + 7 blocks at Opposite and Frosh Setter David Rudic with 49 assists were welcome additions. Quincy under 1st year HC Caren Kemner has an almost all new team with size and talent, led by 15K from OH Salinger and Oppo Lawton. Frosh setter Bryce Jones played for Jonas Holzinger and had 42 assists. Too many missed serves (18 and 20) for each team, but, hey, that’s men’s volleyball. Great way to open the season for the Spartans. 🏐👍

Vanguard survives in 5 sets over Merced (21-19 in the 5th). It may have come at a price, though. Anema went down with what looked like an ankle injury about midway through the last set. He couldn't put any weight on it coming off the court. It didn't look good.
