Lube wins it 3-2, 15-12 in the fifth
some serious scenes at the end of the match, Lube was up 9-4, then 12-8. Simon got stuffed 1 on 1 twice in a row, then Smith hit an ace to get within one. the Zaksa setter went down with an injury at 11-13. my stream delayed a bit but based on the reactions Kaczmarek hit a service error at 12-13 to give Lube match point and then got stuffed for the Lube victory.
tough loss for Zaksa.

I watched the latter part of the ZAKSA match. Lube let it be known they were going to Simon whenever they could. Finally Huber decided just to commit block and it got them back in the match.
I also watched the Perugia/Fenerbahce match. It was very interesting. Perugia had to start Travica (though Gianelli was dressed and on the sidelines). They used Oleh at libero and Ther Horst at middle blocker.
Fenrbahce gave Perugia absolute fits in the first two sets, but were not able to close them out.
Another interesting match in the CEV Cup, Modena lost 3-1 at Tours. I still think Modena will advance in a golden set, but that was obviously not expected.

Can't believe nobody's brought this up yet...Modena dropped two sets yesterday at home to Tours in the second leg of the 1/8 finals of CEV Cup, and are therefore out of the tournament!!!
I was looking forward to Modena vs. Zenit Kazan in the CEV Cup finals, which we won't get anymore...Monza is probably the only team left with a chance against Kazan.

Sorry, I hope we could squeeze this CEV Eurovolley match into this thread. For @madden55 . On right now, France vs Serbia, tied at 1 set each. thanks for the tag but we pretend this match doesn’t exist. Lmaoooo The women's "groupe France Avenir 2024" plays in LAF, top french pro women's league, and they get spanked many times even in that national league: simply... last place with only 2pts in 14 games, not a single win in 2 years ! women's VB here has never been performing well. It's the theam that has been built by the french federation, with girls training at the INSEP, our national elite sport institute.
We sometimes think that it's the boys first that make the things change: it's been like this for handball and basketball in our country, if the boys don't make it, i.e. winning world and/or olympic's trophies... no way for the girls, sadly.

Too bad the TVB is struggling with the city council of Tours stupid antics: the mayor blocked the arena's naming because.... ecologists don't like McDonalds. Therefore the TVB needs to find cash somewhere else to make ends meet.
Now... yes, Kazan will crush everybody on its road, it's way to easy for them in the russian super league or the CEV cup

in their Champions League match Zenit St. Petersburg has Grebennikov playing OH and Urnaut playing libero...they're currently losing but it's pretty wild
it's so weird seeing Jenia serve and play middle back defense, cant wait to watch him hit

update: Zenit got swept but the mess/sheer lack of knowledge of what to do on their side was fun to watch. unfortunate that covid took out so many of their players.

They played quite well though  It was a fun game to watch for me |
