Adora Anae is the only other 1st Teamer for Utah. I agree that Drews is the better player. They had some really good players in the mid-00s (Toone, Webb, Turner, the two girls who transferred) but IMO Drews is clearly the Ute GOAT Agreed. Drews is simply amazing.

For some reason, I thought they'd had another first-teamer. I thought Drews was probably their best player ever, but I couldn't be sure. I'm curious who the BYU GOAT is. My knowledge of them only goes back to the mid-2000s, but I know they had some great players in the 1980s and 1990s. I guess from the era that I'm familiar with, I would probably go with Jennifer Hamson, as she was a two-time First-Team All-American and led BYU to its best finish.

You think Koerber transferred because she wasn’t getting enough attention? I think what they meant is that if Koerber was still there, it would split the attention of opposing defenses. That but more so, when Koerber was there, I felt there was a lot more attention and focus on Drews. In 2019, Koerber had 900 swings compared to Dani's 1600... Imagine if 200 of those were delivered to Koerber instead. A more balanced offense I guess and utilizing both hitters. I always wanted to see more reliance on Koerber at utah than just to drews. I felt it would've taken pressure off drews

I agree with all of this...and yet her career record against BYU was...yep...too bad her family was so red, she would have been even better in blue.

I don't think she would have been a better player at BYU. I think her playing both indoor and beach at Utah has been better for her development, something she would have missed out on at BYU. Of course she would probably have had more success as a team, but as it was, that 2019 Utah team was this close to knocking off Stanford and was playing well enough to possibly win it all if they had.

I played against Utah in the 70’s 😐, and followed them since then. Adora was really good. But Drews is the GOAT, IMO. I think she would start for any school in the country. Really a special player.
GOAT for BYU? Gonna have to think about it. So many choices…..

But they did not and got to the Sweet Sixteen once.
Would you rather of had RJPs career or Drews? Easy answer for me. Drews had one decent post season run in four years and had a really bad career record vs BYU. Please don't get me wrong...I love her as a player and a person...I love her energy. But she played in a down cycle for the Pac 12 and never finished higher than 3rd in the conference. If anything, this is a criticism of her teammates--but her Utah teams under achieved in my opinion in all her 4 years.

The fact that Drews stayed at Utah while some of her former teammates went out chasing glory either in a weaker conference like Koerber or with a far superior team like SKT suggests to me that Dani was happy to be a Ute and that was an important part of having the career she wanted to have. I am not a Utah fan, but Drews is fantastic and I am glad she didn't go shopping for another team. Glad I got to watch her for the last 5 years.

Drews is a great player, but I don't begrudge anyone transferring (or not transferring) if they think it's the best situation for them. Also, the WCC may be a weaker conference than the Pac-12 (though the Pac-12 isn't what it used to be), but the fact remains that BYU beat Utah and therefore has advanced further in the tournament. And Texas has a good look at the Final Four if not the national title, so it's hard for me to criticize SKT's transfer either. I mean, SKT graduated, right? What's wrong with her wanting to go to grad school at a better academic institution with a better volleyball program? Though even if she had transferred to a situation that seemed worse on paper, I still wouldn't criticize her for it, as I think it's generally pretty classless to criticize transfers.

At any rate, Drews is a die-hard Ute. There's nothing wrong with that.

Didn't say there was anything wrong with staying or playing at Utah. She would never have gone to BYU, I get that. But, there was no discussion that her overall record against BYU was 1-6 (the only win was in 2019) in the GOAT analysis. She did play in a Sweet Sixteen as a freshman as well as well as in 2019. So, in summary, she made 2 Sweet Sixteens in 5 years...compare that with say Kennedie Eschenberg who also played 5 seasons--made it to the Sweet Sixteen or farther in 4 out of 5 years and was 6-1 against Utah. Drews is my all time favorite Utah player (again, I am only bringing this up because of the topics pointed out on this thread)--but she was defintely not the most successful Utah player in terms of post-season success (and especially as evaluated against success against BYU). And, in a "fantasy" world, I would have loved to have seen her play in BLUE because she was the closest volleyball player I have seen recently that equaled the athleticism of RJP and Heather was so good with RJPs development.

Somewhat surprisingly, the NCAA has already posted the entire match on their YouTube channel.
