Heard that the Field House is usually pretty warm. Is that accurate?

Heard that the Field House is usually pretty warm. Is that accurate? Pretty accurate. In that it is VERY warm. If you are in the lower deck underneath the balcony, it is quite warm. If you are in the upper deck, it is EXTREMELY warm. Wear layers planned for inside and out.

Thank you to everyone for the help. I am staying at the Hampton Inn just off campus. Walking distance to the Kohl Center, where I intend to go Friday night for the hockey game. Any other food recommendations in the area are appreciated.
Couple of other questions:
Someone mentioned not wanting seats that are behind the pillars. Can someone tell me where the pillars are, or is there some indication on the seating map?
How is the food at the Field House and Kohl Center?
Planning to Uber between hotel and Field House. Anyone know if there are issues getting an Uber after the game? Last thing I want is to be stuck in the freezing weather after the game.

Decent brats, but nothing great. Two places not far from where you are staying that I would recommend for food are very close to each other on North Henry. The Plaza Tavern makes good burgers and fried stuff and is a Madison go to (make sure to get Plaza Sauce on your burger and a side for any fried stuff). The Globe is a little place that does mostly pan Asian stuff but also makes some of my favorite jambalaya (which is available but not listed on the menu there. It is run by a really nice family from Nepal. Small, though, so you may want to just do take out. Also, unless you like hot stuff, don't go crazy on the spice levels. Nothing is bland. I know there are pillars off the aisles in the end zones in the GA seating, pretty far up.

Oh, yeah, and, duh, Madistan is a Mediterranean and Indian place in the building literally next to your hotel. Many people like Parthenon on State for gyros, but I prefer Madistan, but I get samosas as a side, because why not? They also have revolving daily Indian specials, as well as standards always on the menu.

Good thing is, if, for some reason, your line of transportation breaks down after the game, it's only about a 20-minute brisk walk from the Field House to your hotel. bucky415 gave some great suggestions for pre-hockey game eats. I'm also a fan of Dotty Dumpling's Dowry. It's a little bit touristy, but locals love it, too. Excellent burgers, cozy atmosphere, and two blocks from the arena. Hope you have a great time here, gobruins!

Hi Wisconsin folks—Gopher fan here, eavesdropping on your dining suggestions to gobruins 😊. We’re staying at the Best Western InnTowner, which is near the UW Hospital and about a mile west of the Field House. We would appreciate any dining suggestions in that direction. Also looking for things to do on Friday and Saturday, before the championship match (I’m keeping a positive attitude about still being in Madison at that point in time!🤞🏻). Thanks for any suggestions!

Thanks for any suggestions! (Once you get to the hotel, you won't need to be told that) Lombardino's is literally across the street. And then across from there is the Blue Moon bar and grill, burgers, etc.

Hope you have a great time here, gobruins! When I lived in Los Angeles, I became a fan of Peruvian food, and maybe a year ago, I noticed a Peruvian restaurant had opened on University, more-or-less kitty-corner from Dotty Dumplings; Estacion Inka. I went in and asked for my favorite, Saltado de Pollo and they didn't have it on the menu, but they made some up for me anyway. Another variation on chicken, rice, potatoes, somewhere between chinese and mexican.

Regarding the pillars... you can't miss them... probably on par with the Pav. Unless you elect to sit directly behind a pillar, even the worst does not 100 percent obstruct. You just have to kind of figure it out by sitting down and surveying the view.
P.S. Good coffee at Barriques by the Inntowner. If you walk a couple blocks to University you can find some other places a little to the west (left from the Inn towner).

Ichiban. Best Szechuan in town - by miles. The best Szechuan in town has a Japanese name? Yes. I always thought of it as a "white people are stupid" joke - Ichiban = "first," and they were the first Szechuan restaurant in town. Taigu in Middleton is also really good Chinese. They do noodles. Their house cat ear noodles are my favorite.
