people don't usually hate the team though, right? they usually just hate the fans of that team ...
(just saying ... considering who i support. there's usually lots of love/respect for the team, not as much for the fans ... lol)

So everyone in the region likes to see them lose. Kind of like USC in the west. Texas as a state has a lot of arrogance, and UT tends to be the biggest reflection of that, so fan bases from schools in states bordering Texas tend to like to see them lose - e.g. Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana (less so with LA because of the longtime SEC affiliation). Then there's the Big 12 angle, where the non Texas schools from the Big 12, either current or former, tend to see Texas as a big bully that has a lot of unearned swagger. All talk no cattle, as the phrase here goes. So a lot of rooting for Texas to lose in everything there. Lastly, the Texas brand is one of the most identifiable in college sports. Arguably the most identifiable. The Gonzaga fans were doing the upside down Horns sign in the men's basketball game at their home arena early in the year. It's just an easy program to dislike. Not just in women's volleyball, which is seen as uber talented each year that continuously falls short of its potential, but in pretty much every sport they're good in. |

How much of this match will we be able to watch? Now that Baylor v Minnesota has gone five and Wisconsin v UCLA probably won't start in another hour...

I realize that the folks who are off work and have the ability to utilize both ESPNU and ESPN+ are thinking that volleyball has hit hog-heavan. But, IMO, VB is treating the round of 16 like the opening day of the men's basketball tournament. |

I realize that the folks who are off work and have the ability to utilize both ESPNU and ESPN+ are thinking that volleyball has hit hog-heavan. But, IMO, VB is treating the round of 16 like the opening day of the men's basketball tournament. This is driving me a bit batty, since I'm going to a school concert at 4:30 and DVRing ESPNU. I figure nobody is going to spoil it for me since I don't know anybody else who watches volleyball. But if they put it on ESPN+, I just won't see it, which bums me out. |
