Of course I want to see Nebraska win, but also want to see Kyla play well.

All I’m saying is if that UI team shows up and you think NU clearly beats them you are vastly overestimating how good NU is. History says that UI team won’t show up again but that’s why they play the games. Nebraska beat Illinois 3-0, 3-0 because they’re better. That’s why I think they’ll win. Of course anything could happen, I’m expressing my opinion. Nebraska does out edge Illinois in some facets of the game, but I like our chances on a neutral floor!

Gosh that came quick

I mean regardless of what happened in our single match I still think Kentucky is the better team too and they beat us and I don’t think that’s necessarily the hottest or homerish take. They played their best match of the season we played our worst. The better team doesn’t always win

Pre-season & conference season all goes out the window during NCAA’s. Its win or go home.

Welcome to the Austin Regional! Illinois came to Austin as the #8 national seed back in 2010. Nebraska has never been sent to play in an Austin regional in the past; but, Texas has been sent to regionals in Nebraska three times (4 if you count this past Spring) and squared off with the Huskers in the regional finals. So, it was just a matter of time before Nebraska landed in an Austin regional. If last Spring's regionals had been played on the campuses of the Top 4 national seeds, Nebraska would be playing in an Austin regional two consecutive seasons. If Texas beats Washington, and a majority of the Longhorns fans stick around to watch the second match, I don't anticipate them cheering for the Huskers. That doesn't mean they'll cheer for Illinois; but, it is typical for the underdog (lower seed) to gain the host school's support if they are closing in on pulling an upset. The old cliche about beating the same team 3 times in the same season being difficult does hold merit; but, it happens when both teams play like they've played the prior two meetings. But, this is the post-season. Does the pressure of having to beat a conference rival a third time, and this match being a post-season elimination match, put some extra pressure on Nebraska? Which Illinois team shows up in Austin -- the one we saw in Lexington last weekend, or the one who Nebraska swept twice earlier in the season? When Nebraska had to play conference rival Penn State in a regional semi-final a few years ago in Lincoln, was that the third time they played that season? Or, had they only played once in the regular season? We saw the pressure Nebraska had to shake off, and that was in front of their home fans. PSU was the #16 national seed, but I don't think anyone would have predicted how well they played despite the earlier loss(es) to the Huskers. While it's natural to cheer for the underdog, an Illinois win could indicate they are on a hot streak and playing consistent volleyball. So, I hope the match goes 5 sets and both teams play inconsistently all match long

Both teams are peeking at the perfect time. I know they’re definitely peeking at each other right now trying to find some weaknesses on film

And some times luck enters the equation as well - where one team gets a lucky bounce off the twine that just drops over the net for a critical ace, whereas another team hits a serve that misses the line by a micrometer for a service error. Close matches are determined by a handful of critical points. The difference between a successful shot or a hitting error is extremely small. Even for a shot hit many feet out or into the net - the difference between the position of the hand to the ball may be less than an inch. How do you determine who's the best team when Nebraska sweeps Purdue, Purdue sweeps Wisconsin, and Wisconsin sweeps Nebraska? Trying to determine who's the best team based on past performances is a rather futile pursuit. What matters is how the match/game plays out on the court/field.

If Illinois plays like they did vs. Kentucky this could be a tight match. Kentucky was young and undersized to keep up with the big teams in the B1G. Nebraska is not Kentucky (ya' think!) Coach Tamas goes up against his mentor and good friend, John Cook. How many years was Tamas an assistant at Nebraska? Lots of good feelings and respect between these two coaches. Go Illini!

Yall seem to be discounting how well Illinois played way too much. The match was tied after 2 sets and it was even. Illinois played slightly better in 1, Kentucky in 2. Kentucky wasn’t flat or playing their worst game of the year. For 3-4 Illinois refused to let the ball hit the floor, hit very hard without spraying the ball out of bounds, served extremely tough, all things they haven’t been able to do consistently all year. That’s why UK played so bad in 3-4, it wasn’t because of a high number of service errors or unforced hitting errors. Sometimes you just run into a buzz saw. Kentucky was mentally deflated in 3-4 because they couldn’t put the ball down and couldn’t keep it up in the air on their side. They went from winning a set and looking like they would impose themselves on Illinois to being completed deflated in a few minutes. Does Kentucky win 6-8 times out of 10, sure I can buy that. Texas ran into a buzz saw last year against UK, Texas played really well, Kentucky just played a little better. Sometimes it happens. I also asked if Grome’s size worries UK fans and the answer was no. She was a complete liability on the block and Illinois went after her every time she was on the front row.
