Oof without Cooney this was a short match and a snooze fest easily the least competitive match today. Yeah, it had zero drama -- feel sorry for the Illini students who came so far for so little they could have at least come to the Texas game, that entire section was empty until Ill/Neb started. |

Congrats to Illinois on a great tournament run; you won the fan battle tonight! That was pretty easy to win... The only Nebraska fans I actually saw looked to be 65+ and headed to the exit after warm ups because it was 9:00 PM and they needed to get back to hotel and hit the sack! The originality is what makes this so gosh darn funny. Keep at it, so good |

I really believe that Illinois would have won if if Cooney would have been well, as if DeBruler would have been not hurt. I really believe everyone in this forum that smokes the funny stuff wants to know where you're getting yours from! |

Fun fact: Nebraska has now won 18 straight sets in the regional
semifinals. The last set they dropped in the round of 16 was to Penn State in 2016 when they went down 0-2.
In the regional finals during that span:
2016: 3-0
2017: 3-1
2018: 3-0
2019: 0-3
2020: 1-3
2021: ?-?

And none of this has anything to do with the Ilinni-Husker game? If NE & TX win we can rehash this in the TX-NE match post, but then again it would not relate to the match. So tell the innocent Illini fan not to ask questions about it. They didn’t do anything wrong. And frankly, a limited amount of posts creating a segue isn’t going to hurt anyone. In any case, I’m interested to see if Illinois can top Nebraska. My inclination is no. I think Nebraska’s defense is going to be too much. But Illinois played at a high level against Kentucky, another good defensive team. Repeat that performance, and anything can happen. It’s also nice to see Illinois returning to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since the Final Four loss to Nebraska - which has already been referenced - back in 2018. That was a great run under Coach Hambly and then Coach Tomas’s first two years, so it’s good to see them returning to that form with Tomas’s players. To put it mildly TX and NE are big rivals. Once prompted it gets a bit nasty. Which has no impact on the Illini-Husker match-up. BTW you were correct the Illini were not able to beat NE. Missing Cooney hurt the Illini. Too bad she could not play. |

I actually thought Peterson deserved the libero Jersey until she..didn’t. Not really sure what happened there? With knuckles on the other hand, it was evident from the beginning that she wasn’t going to be able to fill Maloney’s shoes. This new DS/back row attack role is kinda spicy tho 🙃 |
