1. Can Nebraska beat Illinois for a third time in a season? 2. Will Batenhorst be continually blocked or we she be replaced by Sun? 3. Will Hames' sets be off? 5. Will Hames ignore middle? If Nebraska can get these managed, we definitely can beat the Illini and Texas. I think point 4 will be the decider. 😊

Wasn't there bad blood between Nebraska and Texas when both schools were in the Big Twelve? Did not Nebraska resent the fact that the Big Twelve Conference always catered to Texas? Nebraska ruled the Big 8 conference, and the other 7 schools just went along with things when voting on certain issues like allowing unlimited non-qualifiers out of high school; the only major conference who allowed that at the time back in the early 90's. When the Big 12 conference was formed, those other 7 former Big 8 schools realized they now had an actual voice and could vote how they wanted. First thing that was nixed by a vote of 11-1 was unlimited non-qualifiers out of high school. So, yes, Nebraska resented Texas for how things started to change for them in the Big 12.

Sure I'm excited to watch other matches tomorrow, but having to wait until at least 8:30 to see the one I really care about is kind of a bummer. But hey, less than 24 hours from now- so there's that!

First thing that was nixed by a vote of 11-1 was unlimited non-qualifiers out of high school. So, yes, Nebraska resented Texas for how things started to change for them in the Big 12. The conference headquarters were moved from Kansas City to Dallas. The SWC commissioner was named the first Big 12 commissioner. Nebraska didn’t want a conference championship game. There was a conference championship game. On every vote that was important to Nebraska they lost, and the feeling among the people at Nebraska is that Texas/Deloss Dodds was always the driver behind it. Then you add the results on the football field, where time after time Texas seemed to find ways to spoil Nebraska’s seasons - almost finding new inventive ways to break Cornhusker hearts each time. Nebraska departed the Big 12 blaming Texas for its exit. As a Texas fan I question that, but what I consider propaganda has been successful in creating an impression. I’ve seen people focusing on the partial qualifier bit. It wasn’t an unlimited amount. It was a set amount determined by NCAA rules. But it’s true that the Big 8 allowed them as a conference, and Texas said we’re not merging unless they’re not allowed. In any case, there’s enough intensity simply in volleyball between the two schools without adding anything else in. I just get the feeling the two coaches aren’t going to be sharing a beer anytime soon. I feel like Texas fans get a little extra oompf from beating Nebraska over any other program. I know I do. I have no idea if that feeling is shared on the Nebraska side, but my guess is, it is. But both schools have to get past talented, motivated opponents first. Illinois and Washington are both clubs fully capable of winning this regional.

Always seemed like UTexas thought they were better than the rest of the conference and that doesn’t sit well with midwestern sensibilities. I wouldn’t limit it to the rest of the conference. There’s a certain amount of arrogance - often unearned - which is part and parcel with the Texas brand. Of course that’s off putting. It’s not limited to athletics, btw. It’s embedded in the culture of the institution, a lot of which is driven by the state itself.

Holy crap.......that's not a slanted way of looking at the situation is it? I sense a definite orange shift on the spectrum of that viewpoint.

Some would call it a landslide . . .
