So nice of them to tack on another $50 to the price, especially in this economy. $3.33 per match. According to the email the gift goes towards: "Providing a best-in-the-country experience for our student-athletes is vital to the mission of Gopher Athletics. It helps prepare our student-athletes to perform at the highest level on and off the court. These pricing changes will provide much-needed support for our student-athletes by offsetting some of the rising cost of attendance and expanding vital services such as mental health assistance, nutrition programs, and academic support." Sections 2-6: Ticket price - $150 Contribution- $150 Total - $300

Sections 2-6: Ticket price - $150 Contribution- $150 Total - $300 Badgers this year set their (new, smaller number of) chairback seats to at least $10 per seat per match (10, 12, or 15), plus $250 seat contribution fee. Assuming 15 matches, that’s at least $100, and more likely $175, more than Gophers are charging a year later. They’re being told to generate more revenue. They can’t add more seats; the logistics of moving to The Barn are non-trivial (and the arena sucks, imho, for VB); the demand is there. <shrug>

2023 Season ticket information came out today: Preparation for the 2023 Volleyball season is already underway. Volleyball season ticket pricing for 2023 will have some adjustments. Tickets located in the 200 level (sections 201-206) will have no price change. Tickets located in sections 101-112 will now include a $50 per seat contribution. Tickets located in sections 2-6 will see an increase of $50 per ticket on their current per seat contribution. So nice of them to tack on another $50 to the price, especially in this economy. The economy hits volleyball programs just as hard as it hits individuals. The MN program had a $2.26 million deficit the last few years. The only program in the country that actually makes money off of volleyball is Nebraska and they charge thousands for premium tickets in a larger venue. MN is already #4 in the nation for filling seats so they have to up donations and ticket sales to make ends meet. www.minnpost.com/sports/2022/12/with-a-powerhouse-team-and-strong-attendance-why-doesnt-and-how-does-minnesota-womens-volleyball-turn-a-profit/

That's an interesting article. They make it sound like it's imperative that Gopher Volleyball make a profit. But what if they don't? They never have, nor has any other program in the country except for Nebraska. Also, the article states that the Minnesota program runs a 2.26 million dollar deficit and only cites coaches salaries and travel as the cause. It makes me wonder how big the deficits are for programs that only draw 1,500 people on average but have the same expenses as the MN program.
Anyway, interesting article. Thanks for posting.

I wondered that as well, it’d be interesting to compare the numbers to “smaller” programs. I was shocked to see that UNC admissions to matches are free, they also barely fill the stands so what are their finances like? I’m assuming with a program like that they’re making ends meet by feeding off of basketball where ticket sales and other profits are abundant. I’d also be curious about MN hockey where the local market is great but nationally not so much. I’m admittedly not very business savvy but I’m hoping this new B1G media deal will help make ends meet a little better

That still isn't bad. Wonder what the plans are for premium seat holders?

Just the fact that their flights are chartered makes the budget waaaaayyyy different. ACC teams fly commercial for almost every game.

Wonder what the plans are for premium seat holders? I’m just guessing, but my tea leaves say plus $100 for endcourt and balcony.

The economic reasons make sense, but I don't know if it's wise to do so on the heels of the announcement that there will be a new head coach come fall. Uncertainty of what the product will look like causes me to be hesitant to jump in with both feet.

Uncertainty of what the product will look like causes me to be hesitant to jump in with both feet. They haven't asked for the renewals. I think you will have plenty of time to assess the new coach before you commit to a renewal.

Out of curiosity, can it be taken out to the ground level?

Hope the chairbacks thin. Movin on up or down as the case is. There is no long term plan for the barn or pav. Lets be honest they are crap faculties. They need a new all purpose arena. (don't give me barn tradition because it's mostly losing)

I don’t see this changing anytime soon.
