I truly don’t see him getting it Well they already referred to him as the Interim HC on the broadcast so unless they already hired someone, right now he’s it The last two interim coaches for Minnesota did NOT become the eventual head coach. As others have said, it tells us nothing.

As others have said, it tells us nothing. Right that interim title doesn’t tell us anything. Someone has to be the ‘head coach’ when the search is happening. It’s mostly for HR purposes.

Who is transferring from Minny? or are the girls staying put for a big time hire like Dan Fisher or KBB?

jesus, what is it with all these ghouls asking where will all the minnesota players decamp to now that the season ended, like, six seconds ago? the answer, obviously, is no one knows who, if anyone, will be leaving. No one even knows who the next coach will be. Probably someone or maybe more than one will leave because that's the new portal reality. You might as well ask who will be leaving after the 2023 season.

Not trying to sound blindly optimistic, but if majority (if not all) stay then that's quite a returning squad. A good HC hire would help stick the landing. Returning pins (with returning (fantastic) depth in Crowl and Hanson), returning starting MBs (do need another body), returning setters. Only nonreturning starters are smalls.

Wish I could feel worse about the season's end. But, after the first couple weeks of the season I never got the feeling that this team was special. They could have been, they had the parts. But, they never put it together consistently.
They lack that player who provides fire. Wenaas and Wurcherer could be those players. Booth and Davis, too.
Not sure if it was Hugh's philosophy to be steady but sometimes a team needs someone who gets fired up and demands more of others.
When Hugh first got here he would, on occasion, get after the team and show frustration. Haven't seen that the last few years.
I feel you can be concerned about the player and person as a whole but still demand the player be held to excellence. That, to me, makes an elite athlete. Maybe he was different in practice but never saw in matches.

well ugopher,
i randomly selected a VB match from 2015 Down 2-0 to Purdue in the third set in Bloomington the Gophers fought off a bunch of match points to finally win 34-32 to extend the match. MN was ranked 3rd at the time and Purdue 15.
Hugh sat on the bench and was not pacing exhorting the team. There were oh so many opportunities to be more actively involved. one snapshot does not suggest any pattern of course.
But how much bench time did Hugh have this year? Not that much if you ask me.
I agree, however, that we didn't have a recognizable TayMo that revs up oncourt fervor. Not sure if or how increasing the emotional tempo leads to better performance. Each team has its own character and i'm sure the coaching staff adjusts to that character/chemistry.
Exhorting your 'mates when the passing has broken down isn't the answer. The team's downfall this year was its propensity to give up runs and we didn't have a Dec 8 Londot or 2021 Samedy to break the spell.
We were on a roll at the end of the season and had hopefully transcended passing woes. It was not to be. I do have questions why, when things stopped going our way, that we didn't give ourselves more chances by upping the service pressure. When your opponent is passing in system or has a ready made escape valve (Londot) you can't win by continuing to do the same thing.

When your opponent is passing in system or has a ready made escape valve (Londot) you can't win by continuing to do the same thing. The team had a few nice serves, but we couldn't maintain the service pressure and we were not agressively swinging at balls enough in the end. We became tentative when we needed to be fearless and fight back. It's hard to do when you're down, I totally get it. Someone needed to step up. Wenaas may have been able to if she had gotten set more. Wurcherer had an off night and Landfair looked like she was mentally worn down from constantly being targeted with service pressure. We faded away when we needed someone to step up. It was frustrating to watch. Very talented individuals, but we were missing that missing intanglible for a great team. Hope we fix the puzzle a little better next season.

Is anybody else finding themselves some mornings more excited to watch the transfer portal than the actual volleyball games? Lol. Not sure if excited is the word but maybe, great anticipation? And sometimes feels like a fifth set at 13-13 of the national championship. Lol.

http://instagram.com/p/CmCCqruPsG_ I know some of you have not been impressed with his coaching style but that’s a pretty impressive resume at MN. Sad to see him go but incredibly grateful to have had him as our coach and everything he’s taught his players on and off the court! I give him a lot of credit for Landfair’s triumphant return this year. Where some players would be upset and give up during injuries and being out for so long, he and others on the coaching staff supported her and taught her some life lessons while being on the bench. Wucherer also posted on IG her disappointment in her injury riddled season but very wisely is also using it as an opportunity for growth. That comes from coaching and a supportive team culture 👍
