Volleyheels10 - Have you seen these players play in person? Just curious as you seem to know a lot more than others as to how some of these kids are playing in club this year, and what potential impact they could have their freshman year. Yes....I travel to all the big tourneys during club season. I have seen all of them play. Actually seen a few play in high school to. This is def a good class. Not as good as our #3 2016 class but has better upside and potential IMO. Still need some refining and polishing of their skills but if UNC is getting back on the national stage it will be with this group. Looks to be a potential Top 20 class for sure. In terms of incoming classes - Duke looks great, especially with the addition of Chang at the setter position. NC State's incoming transfer class would be a Top 5 incoming recruiting class.

UNC 2022 class is #7 incoming class. If you add in Charley Niego as a transfer, it would be higher.
I do not expect Duke to be much better this season...they lose a lot of offense and one of the best liberos in the ACC. Nagel has way to much to replace. It will be a growing year for the freshman from this year who didn't get much time.
NCSU will be interesting to watch. They have a lot of good individual pieces coming in but the Achilles for bringing in 5 possible starters as transfers is chemistry....
I expect UNC to make it back to the top tier of the ACC. they played Louisville and Pitt close last year with missing pieces to the puzzle.
I think NCSU can move towards the top of the middle and Duke unfortunately will remain a middle of the road team. I think Wake has better incoming talent than Duke.

UNC Class ranking was from 2 years ago. Player rankings have changed significantly over that time span. I would imagine they will be a potential Top 25 class when it gets updated. When is the last time the Heels have beaten a ranked team? I would love to see them at the top tier of the ACC this year. With so many new pieces it will take patience to gel. I disagree with your Duke assessment. Keefe is one of the best hitters in the class and will start day one for them. If you have traveled to watch Open level Volleyball - you would agree with me. She should contend for ACC freshman of the year. With her and Muir coming in as the number 10 and 30 ranked recruits - that puts them in the Top 15 or Top 20 recruiting from just the 2 of them alone. Throw in Chang and that makes a bigger difference. Not a lover of Duke....just stating facts. NCSU has some of the best talent in the ACC hands down and they should be at the top of the ACC this year.

NCSU has some of the best talent in the ACC hands down and they should be at the top of the ACC this year. That ranking was from earlier this year by Prepvolleyball. Actually back in March. UNC was the second highest rated class in the ACC behind ND. ND lost 2 of their recruits though so you could argue UNC has the top recruiting class in the ACC. UNC last beat a ranked team, twice, back in 2019, and once in 2020. Which is still way behind the glory days of 2014 and 2016. Keefe can hit but she isnt as well rounded IMO at all the skills as some others. I think its very hard to replace Owokiniran and Cole who were the offense and defensive leaders of the team from a production stand point and a leadership standpoint. Personally, I want The triangle teams to all be good. It makes the rivalry better and it makes the ACC better. And Wake is going to quickly come up with the recruits the coaches are bringing in. NCSU certainly has the potential to really make headaches and pains for any team. Its just a wait and see if Slabe can adjust his method of coaching to the college level and getting the transfers to gel. I for one and also interested to see what the ACC schedule looks like as some years it helps some teams and is less favorable for others.

A pretty good outside has committed to North Carolina. Safi Hampton, outside hitter, class of 2023 appears to have committed there according to the Metro Club website. I've been told Prep Dig has her ranked 34 for the Class of 2023. She was also invited to the U.S. National Training team last year. Lots of talent there. Link to an article about her commitment to the Heels. hhsbearpress.com/2021/10/19/hammonds-rising-volleyball-star/

Multi talented athlete. She is part of what i think will be the second year in a row with a top 15 class. She joins MB Sydney Nolan and OPP Romani Thurman as the 2023s for UNC. UNC will be DEEP on the LS and RS pins next year with the 2022 pins and 2023 pins.

I am back from a long hiatus. Summer is spent traveling and working so little time for here....
Quick update on some tings I have been told about open gyms and the girls:
First, the two biggest questions is how do the freshmen setters and RS look.
Setting: Bostic and Babic are the only two setters on the roster and are both freshmen. Coaches are going to have a very interesting decision here. Its hard to run a 6-2 with them because if both get hurt you have no setter....Babic is the crafty one. She can make bad passes look golden and she is more offensive. She is the very vocal go getter. Bostic seems to be the consistent one. She is the one so far in gym that keeps things settled and is connecting more consistently with our biggest weapons. If the decision had to be made today I think Bostic gets the nod in a 5-1. I think Bostic gets the job done but if the team needs some fire to turn a match around it may be a Babic situation. This is going to be a good battle all season.
RS: Zinger emerged as a potent RS last year and we fell apart offensively when we lost her. We became a one trick pony. Peck never found her offense last year and I doubt she sees the floor this year. I do not know who the 2nd OH will be behind Shaff, but we have much needed quality depth on the pins. Buckner is back and looks really good, Austin is healthy again, Niego is absolute gold and the freshman arms of Swain and Shea are heavy. I do mean Cadence Shea has a very heavy cannon. I think the RS is wide open.
Other notes:
Skyy is healthy finally. I predict she will be one of the best middles in the conference. A healthy Skyy and Kaya are a formidable duo. I expect Mogridge and Swift to be back ups and learn this season. Our defensive core is fabulous. Wurl is Wurl. Diaz and Meyerhoeffer are steady. UNC fans will love Overbeck finally being on the floor and do not sleep on Maddy May. She is a scrappy eye popping defender.
Do not sleep on UNC this year. This will be a strong team in the ACC and NCAA team. This freshman class shows glimpses of the 2016 group. There isnt one star like Scoles...but the collective talent is better...
Practices start next week so we may see some separation in performance. OH and team chemistry is VERY good.

UNC is tagged by VBM for having the overall #10 recruiting class for 2022 that includes transfers.
Oh and it all starts today!
