Not sure if this has been discussed yet, but have UW released their announcement of the upcoming 2023 recruits/signings? Seems as if they totally skipped this compared to previous years?

Injuries were clearly a factor. Endsley, Crenshaw, Bush, and Wilmes all had significant injuries, Endsley's season-ending. I don't think Bush entirely recovered - she wasn't the same player after the injury as before (certainly stat-wise). Wilmes, although she was dressed, never came back to the floor. Sometimes it rains, sometimes it pours. Lots of new players coming in the next two years. Hopefully Cook has uncovered some "nuggets". do you/anyone has bays numbers particularly passing pre/post injury? as much as the pin injuries were a factor, i dont think bays played like her freshman year. :/ sophie, bush, and endsley are the core now. they're "young" at setter, M2, and maybe outside. does bush play beach? she needs to evolve her backrow play for the team next year. Did Bays get injured?

With all the other UW issues this year, most of us probably don't want to think about KCook and his future with Washington.
But there are multiple job openings out there, including two pretty lucrative slots: Minnesota and starting a brand new program at Vanderbilt.
The conventional wisdom is that Cook has turned down a few offers in recent years. But I'd think he is still a sought-after hot commodity right now - but that window might be starting to close somewhat.
I have no inside information, just pure speculation. I know he has a relatively new contract, but if the right program wants him, money can be spent to take care of that.

I think Cook is such a great coach! Unfortunately, a lot of coaches look for similar personalities as their self and now that he's been there awhile all of his recruits are kind of blah. Very serious, no fun, no one stands out as goofy or has fire. If he stays he needs to bring in someone with some fire or personality. I am sure they are all very nice but from an outsider... not very fun to watch play.

More likely it is that she is still a young player who'll have her ups and downs. Orlandini and McPherson didn't come into their own until they were juniors and seniors.

I’d much rather people be stoic than screaming at every point won or inadvertently hitting their team mate (see Dana Rettke) in constant celebration. Tom Brady is one of the best QB in history, but he’s usually all business on the field and finds little need for constant celebrations. All of these players have personality, and it’s rather arrogant to suggest that they don’t just because they don’t fit YOUR narrow idea of what that word means.

Oh I am with you too! I don't like super enthusiastic either. My gosh! Sorry! Watching them they just seemed.. flat. I am far from arrogant and I love the sport. Sorry I offended your home team. Geesh!

Yeah, Minnesota is the type of job opening I'd be most worried about: top-tier program and in the B1G, which is the premier volleyball conference in the land. As well as all the uncertainty surrounding the Pac-12, which could affect UW's ability to compete for recruits going forward. If he does leave, I wouldn't be surprised to see Jason Mansfield promoted from within. On the other hand, where else can you "boat" to work...

Very good point regarding the youth of Bays and the time it takes for some really good players to reach their potential -- Orlandini and McPherson are excellent examples. That's why it doesn't make sense to give up on Bays. OTOH, you can never have too many players who can receive serve and play great back row D while anticipating where the other team is going with the ball. A lack of anticipation was both a weakness of Bays and a sore point for the entire UW team this year.

All of these players have personality, and it’s rather arrogant to suggest that they don’t just because they don’t fit YOUR narrow idea of what that word means. Seems you both may be somewhat correct. Remember, KCook was an assistant under JMac and JMac pushed for KCook to be his replacement. And JMac was about as stoic and dead serious on the court as you could be. I suspect he may have instilled some of that on his players and on KCook. And there's nothing wrong with that. It's worked. And there's also nothing wrong with the many teams who always seem to be, well, a lot less stoic. But who doesn't want a Courtney Thompson or Sanja Tomasevic who are going to have fire and fierceness and were sometimes quite vocal and animated in demanding better play by the team. I have no idea if there was one or more players on the current team who may have played that role. They may have just done so in a less vocal, animated fashion. And there's nothing wrong with that either.
