Elliott is 53, he could have 15-20 more years in the tank. Cook isn't young at 65 but also could have another 8-10 years left. At least for the next 4-5 years, his roster is insanely stacked. They're going to be loaded for the next 3-4 years and are landing top kids left and right. I doubt he leaves anytime in the next 5 years with the talent he has on board. You really believe Cook is going to still be coaching in his 70's, even his late 60's. Do you not understand the stress these coaches are under, and how many hours they put in. All of this is Ok when your young, but when a person gets into their mid-60's and beyond, it really starts to take a toll health wise. At any time now, I am expecting Russ Rose to announce his retirement. Get off the age train, find a new angle. Krzyzewski is 74 and doesn't seem to be drooling. In fact, there are currently four 70 year old coaches currently active in the ACC in men's B-ball. In other words

Good morning! I tried to stay up, I really tried, but I passed out in the middle of set 3. (We had to go back to the hotel after the Wisconsin/Louisville game because Rainbowtoddler).
So now we have an accurate thread title and a poll, and I’ll get cracking on the rest.

Sheffield is a young 51. He seems to know how to engage well with his players and seems young at heart

Just in case someone decides that they should point out that Wisconsin beat Louisville and the Cardinals swept the Huskers in Lincoln - let me point out that the Huskers played 4 players against Louisville that probably won't see the floor against Wisconsin - Lexi Sun, Callie Schwartzenbach, Kalynn Meyer, and Whitney Lauenstein. The team that took to the court in Madison three weeks ago is a better barometer. The Huskers came close to taking down the Badgers on their home court that night. This could be just as exciting of a match as Louisville vs the Badgers. I just hope the Huskers don't lay an egg and any respect they might have won in reaching the finale is not lost in a wave of "Those guys didn't belong there" or "the real final was against Louisville".

Nebraska is likely to stay relevant a long time simply due to recruiting. They’ve got an inherent advantage based on their fan base and subsequently their facilities. Regardless of coaching NU will keep getting raw talent for the foreseeable future.
Cook has done a much better job over the years of delegating to his assistants. That will really help extend his coaching career if that’s what he wants to do. He seems to have a fair number of interests outside of volleyball so he might ultimately hang it up even though he’s physically up to the task. Time will tell…

speaking of penn state, i'm extremely surprised not to have identified many penn st fans in this forum. i get that the team is down the last few years, but with its glorious history, i expected more lion fans. Their fans made their own forum a few years ago

Huskers don't look too nervous getting another shot at their buddies.

Sun and Lauenstein played pretty much the entire match three weeks ago in Madison. Krause didn't play at all and Batenhorst had one swing.

Yeah, I'll be shocked if he retires before 70, barring health concerns. He's shown no implications of slowing down and his program is in the championship and lined up to be a true title contender for the next 5 years. It's also not unheard of for coaches to coach into their 70s. Mick Haley was 73 or 74 when he was let go, Coach K at Duke is 74, and there are other examples too. Russ Rose is a different situation altogether. Penn State hasn't been nearly as good the past 4 seasons and isn't projected to be a championship contender going forward. There's no upside for him here on out after he's won 7 titles. There's massive upside for Cook, and he's likely chomping at the bit to coach these incoming recruits. There's a difference between chronological age and biological age. Coach Cook takes care of himself. Aside from his hip surgery a couple years back, he's aging really well and puts a lot of effort into staying healthy via diet, exercise, and finding ways to reduce psychological stress. He still exhibits a growth mindset and tries to continuously learn and evolve as a coach which suggests that his only present limiting factor is his desire to keep coaching. As of now, he's still enthused walking into the gym. He did promise the 2021 class he'd coach them through graduation, but I guess plans can always change and taking an early exit should he win his 5th title is a possibility. Watching this, no one would accuse him of seeming too old to coach or that the game is passing him by:

Will be rooting for Nebraska.
The other three all had great seasons, and congrats on that to them. But none deserve to get a natty before other far more established and prestigious programs that haven't had their turn to win one yet.
And of course, I'm talking about an actual, real natty, won at the conclusion of an actual, real fall season.
