And (not to quote the entire original post), if he gets her, the other girls have plenty of time to realign themselves to a program that has openings. We’ve see before pieces can move later in the game, no? Nebraska is always looking to upgrade. There is no position on the roster that they wouldn't recruit if the right player is available. WE over me.

Regarding Caffey: in post game interview after 2nd Purdue game she said "being one of her last games" which obviously leads one to believe she's done. In article yesterday Cook said both she and Hames want to continue school. Obviously they can both do that without playing vb or transfer to another school to finish the schooling. Only they *truly* know and the rest of us will just have to wait.

I sincerely do not understand the fascination with Hord. . . Of course she is a good player, but Nebraska has *5 MB either on the roster or will be on the roster, 2 (Gray, Meyer) of whom sat waiting patiently with the opportunity to start next year, and 2 (Allick, Mendelson) others that were recruited with promises of competing for immediate playing time- plus the apparent return of Caffey (*and Schwarzenbach). To bring Hord in, is at a minimum a not-so slick way of betraying these recruits. There is a difference between having a freshman come in and beating out a veteran or previous starter, and bringing in some portal transfer from within the conference who gets the starting spot. Will non-starters continue to buy into a culture where working hard and waiting your turn is just a promotional façade? I can’t help but believe that bringing in Hord will chip away at the magnificent team culture this team has built. Gray, Meyer, Mendelson and Allick all have the talent to be elite MB at the AA level, I just hope it will be at Nebraska. Instead of thinking about Hord, I think more concern should be placed on whether both Knuckles and Akana return. Eddy Haskell up at Wisconsin wasn’t gushing with praise at both of them without a purpose. I’m sure he isn’t the only one that can offer either of them a starting L spot- instead of a part time DS spot. We’ll see how it goes. 🏐 Hord is only a 1 to play 1. That wouldn't exactly stunt the growth of Allick and MM. Gray wasn't with the team for the tourney and her future isn't certain. I personally see Hord's floor next year above Meyer's ceiling given she didn't get any meaningful playing time this year. The fact that they're entertaining Hord tells me they don't see Meyer and Gray being NC level middle's next year. Would any of us really be surprised to see Hord, Allick and MM next year? Caffey would add an interesting element. If she comes back, would Hord even want to come? I don't see Callie coming back to experience a repeat of this year. I don’t disagree with a word you posted, but at some point adding from the outside to marginally improve a team as close as this one, results in a net negative, and an exodus to the portal. Also, John Baylor, who is normally ultra cautious of any insider information he has, said last night on a radio interview on The Ticket 97.3, that he thinks “the keys to the Nebraska volleyball program have been passed from Nicklin to Kennedi Orr”, and that if Nicklin stays here it will be as some sort of coach and that a real option would be for her to enter the portal as a Libero because if she wants to play professionally that is where she will play. I don’t see Baylor just making all of this stuff up. So we’ll see.

Hames was fine. I hope that Orr is given a chance to grow by the fans. Billing means squat when you transition to college especially after an injury. Setting is such a difficult position and the pressure mounts up quickly. Hames was far from perfect but she plays stellar defense, especially for a setter (who are typically marginal at defense), and is athletic. The team did great under her veteran leadership. I am certain that Cook and Co. would have played Orr, if they thought she was the better option. And, unless you are at practice every day, you have no idea how/why people are earning their spots. I'd take Hames over most. I think the biggest takeaway Orr got from watching Hames this year was grit. Hames showed tenacity, intensity and passion - something that ANY freshman (no matter how highly ranked) would benefit from witnessing for an entire season.

Nicklin would never play professionally as a libero So John Baylor just made that up out of whole cloth? Interesting take, I never saw him that way. . . 🤨
