The past is the past. Can Wisconsin best Nebraska, Minnesota, and the rest in 2022? Earlier this year, I thought Nebraska was going to be a legitimate contender, not only for the B1G but for the NC. I don’t have that confidence any longer. Especially now that Akana chose to leave Caffey’s return now appears rather doubtful. Those two (along with Stivrens and Hames) were so pivotal to UN-L championship run last season. Even with the addition of Hord, and returning Rodriguez, Kubik, Krause, and Hames, the Huskers are a question mark to me. Orr, Batenhorst, and the touted freshman class could put on a show. We’ll see. Minnesota is an even bigger question mark with the exit of Samedy, Miyabe, and the “return” of Landfair. And is Shaffmaster about to break out this season? My point is that while the Badgers lost so much talent, I have never seen a team as potentially explosive as the 2022 version. Front to back and side to side, the proven production is immense. Chemistry and injuries will factor in, but I’m not too worried. If we can just consistently pass well…yeah, c’mon. So while replacing a generational Dana, Sid, Grace, and a beastly Barnes, seems so daunting a task, I think we’ll be fine with the talent we have in the gym. Time will tell. But my money is on KS and these kids. They’ll be hard to best IMO. Letz Go!!

Two big questions going into this season IMO.
1. Will we run a system incorporating two setters?
2. How big of drop off in the back row in serve receive, overall floor defense will we experience with the loss of TWO super seniors.
Coach felt compelled to add a piece in that area yet appears to be fine with setter personnel. If we go with a 5-1 MJ should be considered the favorite and both her and Izzy have 2 and 3 years respectively in Wisconsin's system. MJ also looked pretty good in her one opportunity against the Gophers. Bramshreider and Gülce have no prior experience playing with the other girls in Wisconsin's system.
Hilley leaves big shoes to fill no doubt but I really think we'll have the setting smoothed out before the back row rounds in to shape.

Hilley leaves big shoes to fill no doubt but I really think we'll have the setting smoothed out before the back row rounds in to shape. I think MJ and Izzy are fine if they don't have to move their feet much. Hilley and LC were both remarkable setting on the move. I've not seen the same from Hammil and Ashburn yet. The passing should be there to keep them grounded, IMO. Bramschreiber is proven, GG has been playing professionally, Boyer can pass really well (although she has more of a tendency to break down in SR). I think the badgers are less likely to have Franklin pass and hit out of the back row to preserve the passing, at least at first. How they weigh offensive balance vs using Franklin as a bailout hitter will be interesting. It's true that MJ filled in well against the gophers. She set a very hittable ball, and seemed good enough on the block. But the badgers also passed unsually well that day - at least when Loberg wasn't getting aced - and that made it pretty easy for her. Also, there was no Shaffmaster on the block. Minnesota was discombobulated. I'm never sure what to make of that match.

Who's planning/booked road trips? Tickets just went on sale for the first weekend at TCU. I'm going to that one because it coincided with interoffice activities for work! (I do a lot of work with people in our Dallas office). That's a nice 4 matches for a Badger/Gopher fan.
Other than that, I'm not sure. Of course road trips for me mean coming down to Madison. Maybe Penn State weekend, maybe MN/NE week (or both). It does seem harder this year for some reason to find multi-game trips that line up nicely. I'll keep studying schedules (last year it worked to hit some Marquette and Gopher games on the same trips). I had one crazy idea where MN/WI are collectively playing Michigan St, Michigan, Purdue and Indiana on a wed-sunday stretch. In theory that's doable but I think I clocked it in at 2,000 miles driving, so probably a pass on that this year.

Hopefully not a late October snow storm lol (almost hard to imagine at the moment - but possible).

Looks like they are trying out some new styles for the match promo videos.
