According to the web page, there are two number ones on the roster.
Jocelyn Boyer = 1 Sarah Franklin = 13/13 = 1
I'm all for basic mathematical operations on jerseys, but what I am really holding out for are irrational numbers.

Okay, but I draw the line at imaginary numbers. If I see √(-1) on a jersey, I'm walking out.

I feel like it would lowkey be a flex to have the number on your jersey be i you're also painting a sign that said "NERD" on your back though but eh

Good to hear she will have a full summer. She has two years of eligibility left, right?
Now that all personnel been settled, really interested to see what will happen with lineups. There is the simple solution where you keep the same system but just plug in players into gaps left by graduation: Franklin replacing Loberg, Hart replacing Rettke, GG/Boyer replacing Barnes/Civita, and Ashburn or Hammill replacing Hilley.
But there are a lot of other options based on the balance of ball control and attacking options. Franklin probably improves the LS attack, but does she pass more than Loberg? and does she attach from the backrow? What does that mean for Demps? Can Boyer be good enough to replace Civita, does she need to? Does Hammill or Ashburn have what it takes to run a 5:1. Who else steps up this year? Someone always seems to make large improvements - especially in the backrow.

Whether it's Demps, Franklin, Orzel and/or someone else, we all saw last year how different (BETTER) it was with a consistent back row attacking option that teams needed to defend. However we lineup this year, we need to preserve a strong back row attacking option. What a difference that made.

However we lineup this year, we need to preserve a strong back row attacking option. What a difference that made. I agree. Once Hilley got over her caution and got comfortable setting it, and Demps got comfortable with her approach, it created a whole new dynamic to the attack. It's going to be interesting seeing a new setter bed-in to this attack. Hilley was running a system with a lot of different options at the end. With Franklin's comfort out of the back row, it's possible that the new setter could have even more options. I imagine they will have to ease into it, but Ashburn has been there in practice for three seasons already, and Hammill for one. They will have some familairity.

Franklin was targeted the most in SR for MSU last year, with similar numbers to Orzoł (receptions and reception errors). She’s not replacing Julia, so I don’t know how that will translate to her taking over for Grace, who only took about 1/3 the balls that Orzoł and Franklin took last year.
Coach noted her ability to pass from all over the court, and she seemed pretty solid as far as I could tell from watching some of the MSU 2021 replays on YT. I am assuming this will be an upgrade from that position, especially adding in Sarah’s ability to attack from the back row.
