Hoffman will definitely be in the running for conference POY

Re the setter and assists question, if they just wanted to take the player that had the most assists, Miner would have won setter of the year last year. Re POY, I think it’s more going to be about team finish and importance to the team than it is a single stat. I’m not saying Powell will be POY, I just think she has a better chance than Grote. yeah, I could definitely see that. I think Nuneviller could pretty easily grab it, since I think they’ll win the conference (at least be top 3-4), they’ll be running a 5-1 with a way better setter, and her passing and defense is always on point. Honestly now that I’m saying this Hoffman probably has the best chance on Washington and I probably should’ve put her in there over Grote, but eh. Let me keep a middle in there haha I am a big Nuneviller fan, but I think a better setter isn’t that great for her kills number. Oregons setting problem last year wasn’t getting the ball to her, it was getting the ball to everyone else. Pukis can fling that ball anywhere she wants to. Even in a 5-1, I think it’s more likely you see the kills be more even distributed with a better setter. IMO, If Oregon is winning the conference next year it’s because of a balanced offense, not because of Nuneviller leading in points per set, which would arguably put Pukis in the discussion of POY just as much as Nuneviller. I’m not saying she isn’t in the running, but “pretty easily grabbing it” is a stretch.

Nuneviller hit .250 off of [redacted] setting and a huge workload. I'm crossing my fingers that we'll be more comfortable setting the other outside OOS, so her swing rate will probably go down a bit. With her passing and digging prowess, she wouldn't need 4 KPS to get POY if her hitting % goes up - it's not too far off gaudy numbers and it's foreseeable to get there with more balance and Pukis.
Ducks fans just really holding their breaths to see what happens with the L2 position.

PAC 12 Setter of the Year Hannah Pukis, OregonElla May Powell, Washington Kami Miner, Stanford Mia Tuaniga, USC Matti McKissock, UCLA Interesting, because Pukis is good, but she's never yet been better than Powell, so I'm curious why you think she will be next year. Are you thinking that it's because she'll be setting to Nunevillar? The argument for someone like Miner is because the jump up in experience is so much bigger between freshman and sophomore year than between the 4th and 5th years (thanks COVID!). But Pukis has been around just as long as Powell, so that argument doesn't hold in her case.

because the other two pins will probably be Madi Endsley and Emoni Bush who VERY much struggled last season. Bush was a true frosh and was inconsistent, but is immensely talented. She improved as the season went on: 12 kills/.385 (USC), 11 kills/.500 (Oregon), 8 kills/.500 (Oregon St), 12 kills/.400 (Cal), 13 kills/.286 (Oregon St), 13 kills/.423 (Colorado). She just needs the light to come on, and stay on. Endsley, on the other hand, went downhill as the season went along. She hits one of the heaviest balls around, but needs to rebuild her confidence, and footwork. I wouldn't be surprised if Hoffman and Crenshaw are the OHs and Bush is the OPP.

I don't think Endsley has a confidence problem, she has a movement problem, and it's been that way since she was a junior in club. She's not particularly tall and doesn't jump particularly high. If you don't have that, you need to be a fluid mover with good footwork to the ball to be an elite scorer at this level. I've said this before but Endsley should spend this year just studying Claire Hoffman's movement (before she's gone). If she could move like her, there is little doubt in my mind that she'd be an All American level offensive threat.

She made Pia Timmer, Penny Tusa, etc look like all conference players. Brooke, Gloria, Karson, and co. are a step up. I also think better passing will play a huge part. Setting off of Murphy’s and Nuneviller’s passing will make her job SO much easier.

I am an EXTREME shannan crenshaw for outside supporter, I just don’t think Cook is (I have a small connection to inside the program). I heard Ensley has been looking better though so it will probably be her in the front row and Crenshaw in the backrow. I agree Bush has a lot of potential, she’s just ridiculously inconsistent. Even more so than Zoe Weatherington was at Utah.

With the loss of SD I think the #2 opt will be a priority. SC has my vote as well. If they dont have a strong #2 say goodbye to a pac championship.

There are three pin spots and six players shooting for them: Hoffman (Sr+), Crenshaw (Sr+), Cole (Jr+), Endsley (So+), Bush (So), Wilmes (RS-Fr). The problem with a Hoffman-Endsley-Bush pin-lineup is that only Hoffman has been consistently in the passing rotation. If passing becomes the issue, I think a Hoffman-Crenshaw-Bush pin-lineup is a real possibility.

I’m literally just bored and was looking at the SEC pre-season stuff they released so I made my own little preview/prediction for this upcoming season, enjoy if you’d like. Yell at me if I got something Oh and I think Oregon wins the conference. Any chance that maybe Izzi Szulczewski and Kateryna Tkachenko of OSU make some of these lists?

Yell at me if I got something Oh and I think Oregon wins the conference. Any chance that maybe Izzi Szulczewski and Kateryna Tkachenko of OSU make some of these lists? I really like Tkachenko! The problem will be OSU's record sadly. I also wanna see how much offense goes to Laura Williams off the bat. She's my pick for FOTY! She'll be getting the biggest workload of any freshman for sure. Middleton will start but will be competing with Skylar Fields and Weske for swings. Rubin could earn the starting job but she has even bigger offense from her teammates in Baird and Kipp. Also, I always see your tennis related display names. I love it (except when it's my fav). Go hop in the tennis thread in Off The Net sometime. I'd love to have more people to talk to about tennis haha.

I'm really interested to see how impactful these new players will be this upcoming season: Inna Balyko, Jordan Middleton, Gala Trubint, Laura Jansen, Matti McKissock.
