The standings at the end of last year were: Kentucky MSU Florida Tennessee Arkansas Ole Miss LSU Kentucky's losses are well documented, but they return the SEC FOY and the LOY, along with Tealer and some other good pieces. MSU loses a (n under-rated) setter and a sometime starting OPP, but gets almost everyone else of note back. Florida loses its four-year starting setter and most of its offense (but has a stacked recruiting class). Tennessee loses some pieces (notably Runnels and Felts), but is getting Finghall, Hayward, and Mahaffey back. Arkansas loses one MB and replaces her with a better blocker via the transfer portal. Ole Miss loses its straw-that-stirs-the-drink setter (with no clear-cut replacement on the horizon) and an OH via transfer. LSU loses two All-Americans, the career leader in digs, a steady middle, and has an injury depleted line-up with a lot of question marks. The LSU prediction is indeed bold! I'm going to go with Tennessee/MSU/Florida at the top, Arkansas/Kentucky in the next tier, and a mish-mash of teams behind them including Ole Miss, LSU, USC, UGA, and -- my sleeper pick -- an improved, more experienced Mizzou squad. Bama may be a little better than expected since Marjama and Wells decided to come back, but I think TAMU and Auburn will struggle this season. They are both going to be very young and -- apart from Rath and Christon -- not very many players who you can confidently say are SEC ready. With Vandy - again - pulling up the rear. I almost commented about the Tennessee erasure. They lost Felts and Runnels, but gain Erykah Lovett and Kylie Robinson plus a top notch freshman class. Rackham-Watts is putting the pieces of the puzzle together. They will be tough this year with the ability to beat anyone.

With Vandy - again - pulling up the rear. They won't lose a match and you have them dead last. I don't know...

I just feel like it won’t be Kentucky or Florida to win it next year. Kentucky has a few too many question marks and Florida so many new pieces. Florida has struggled the last few years to take it even with solid lineups and seasoned athletes. It feels like Mary’s teams have lost their clutch quality. I suppose I would pick Tennessee or MSU at this point. It’s fun to have so many question marks for the standings next year.
For now I’ll go with this, but this isn’t super well researched and is really just for fun.
1) Tennessee: Rockham has been on the edge of greatness for a bit and it feels like it’s her time. While Felts was great, I do think her lack of terminability at times won’t be too sorely missed as long as ball control can hold up/improve without her. Plus they have Hayward and others back with the addition of Kylie Robinson. Watch out.
2) Kentucky: Skinner is too good to not figure things out, even if the roster is depleted. But I could see them as low as 4, maybe 5 if the wheels don’t get turning fast in Lexington.
3) MSU: Was last year a fluke or is Darty the real deal? For now, I think they are here to stay. For now.
4) Florida: I expect to be disappointed again by the underperformance of their routinely talented roster, but there is loads of it so they won’t be bad.
5) Arkansas: This should finally be the year Gillen and squad break through to the tournament.
6) South Carolina: For some reason I just trust Mendoza to figure things out.
7) LSU: There is so much talent on this roster and I feel like Johnson will be a tremendous improvement over Fran. Could see them cracking into the top 4, but could also see them lower. I hope it’s the former because LSU is always just so fun to root for.
8) Mizzou: I could see them above Arkansas or at the very bottom again. I don’t think last year defines the Taylors and company as coaches. They had made the tournament the two years prior. How quickly can their freshmen/sophomores gain confidence and make an impact. I’m also a Mizzou homer so maybe I’m wishful thinking. But, Riley Buckley is really freaking good, and setting was their biggest issue last season.
9) Georgia: Tom Black’s squad just seem tired routinely. Like always operating at a 6/10. I hope that changes.
10) Ole Miss: I think that Banwarth has the potential to be one of the SEC’s greatest, but setting was what brought them into the tournament conversation last year and McLaughlin is gone.
11) TAMU: Things just don’t look optimistic for me, especially with Connor gone.
12) Auburn: I don’t know too much about them really but don’t trust them to perform outstandingly.
13) Alabama: I hope things look up in Tuscaloosa with the new coach but time will tell. It feels like this will be a program similar to Ole Miss/MSU where it will take time for the program to change but eventually will be good.

The rest are big unknowns. If Alabama can figure out their ball control and passing they will be good under the new staff. Give them a year.

Just for fun, I would put Texas at 1 in this poll (duh) and Oklahoma probably above LSU. The Sooners challenged and beat a few of the Big12 tournament teams from last year and I expect them to be just outside of bubble range for this upcoming season. Not that this matters since they aren’t moving over yet.

They literally were one Florida win over Kentucky from sharing the crown last year. I guess it’s just hard for me to see MSU as a power player given their abysmal history. But I would love for them to win the league more than any other team (except Mizzou).

I'm a Darty fan but not quite ready to think they will be competing again for the top 4 spots. I think the program is on the rise. I'll keep saying it, I do think TN is right there. They have been so close and I think this will finally be their year.

Not exactly results that scream they will repeat their success this upcoming season, especially given that the SEC wasn’t *quite* as strong as it has been the past few years prior.

Last season’s SEC champ took a huge hit on overall talent. MSU came in 2nd and is bringing back virtually all of their offensive production including Waden and Robinson. Lost one half of their setter duo and replaced her with a transfer from Penn State. Also added to their defense with a libero transfer from Troy. Last season they were figuring out how to win on the fly. Going into this season, they will KNOW. I expect big things from MSU and the more people that doubt them and consider last season a fluke, the better. *On Paper, they’re the best TEAM in the SEC. Great thing is, we can speculate all we want, these ladies actually get to go out there and do something about it. #HailState

They still have the BEST setter in the conference...take a look at history and see if that has mattered I don't know in the last... Forever...not only at the SEC level but at the national level. Until a team comes along with a better option at setter than UK, they'll still sit at the top or share the top crown with X team. That's all.
