Oops yes my bad. I meant CP. is Meyer a freshman? Meyer is a R-Fr transfer from BYU. Zayna Meyer is great too! She is a dynamic setter that is as gusty as she is athletic

no consideration for Zayna Meyer? It’ll be among the three for sure: Alexander, Meyer, and Bullis. imagine Bullis and Meyer setting ability in their senior year. Bullis will have Stockham for 2 more years. Meyer will have Kennedy & Chacon next year, plus the back-row players are all young.

Didn't Avalon have an injury she is coming back from so that's why she was not starting? I believe in one of the matches, the commentators mentioned that Coach Walters said that Bullis was just beating our DeNecochea in practices which is why she earned her starting position Bullis has looked good of late, but early in the season she was having some rough outings where DeNecochea looked missed. Largely her fortunes in conference play have been riding on the missiles fired by Stockham and Dvoracek. The middles don't factor too much in their offense, and if Maia isn't going on long serving runs, and their passing is just Cal Poly average, the offense gets predictable. UCSB, Beach, and UCI, all which can put up solid blocks on the pins, have been their kryptonite. Meyer has improved from earlier outings, but the lack of middle involvement early in the season, and questionable setting choices (which may be part of Hildenbrand's effort to run a fast offense) made Beach up and down. But of late, they've gotten more out of their middles and O' Sullivan, which contributed to their win streak. O' Sullivan if hurt, it sets them back some, but maybe not every matchup. Jordan had a very good match against UH in the pyramid. Between these two freshman setters, it's close, but I think Meyer may have the higher ceiling, and Beach has forced a faster and more creative offense from her which she's learning to click with.

Amber Igiede, Caylen Alexander claim Big West awardsBy Star-Advertiser Staff 11/1/22 Career-best performances helped University of Hawaii middle blocker Amber Igiede and outside hitter Caylen Alexander claim half of the Big West Conference’s weekly women’s volleyball awards on Monday. Igiede, a junior, was named the Big West Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in her career after posting 35 kills on .456 hitting in UH’s road wins at UC Riverside and UC Davis last week. She also sent back 15 blocks while averaging 5.63 points per set. Igiede opened the road trip with 11 kills in 20 attempts in UH’s sweep of UC Riverside. Two days later, she set a career high with 24 kills on 37 swings to lead the Rainbow Wahine to a five-set victory over UC Davis. Alexander was voted the BWC Freshman Player of the Week for the fifth time this season, tying the school record set by Hanna Helvig in 2019. She matched her career high with 18 kills while hitting .385 in the win at UC Davis. She hit .314 overall on the road trip with 23 kills and seven errors in 51 attempts. The Big West-leading Rainbow Wahine (14-6, 11-1) remain one game ahead of UC Santa Barbara in the conference standings entering this week’s homestand. UH faces third-place Long Beach State (14-6, 9-3) on Friday and sixth-place Cal State Fullerton (12-8, 6-6) on Saturday at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The Beach take an eight-match winning streak into their match with Fullerton today at the Walter Pyramid.

Congrats to Amber and Caylen! Caylen has been so good this season and was a much needed addition. Her hitting percentage is at 25% which is very respectable especially for a freshman outside. Very respectable. When was the last time a UH freshman left-side hitter hit in the .250 and above range? Kanani Danielson?

Did someone mention that the Beach’s O’Sullivan is injured? The home court advantage and potential Beach injury might give Hawaii a huge advantage. I was hoping there would be a big drop off, but it looks like Natalie Glenn, Under Armour and Max Prep All America, stepped right in with 14 kills hitting .438. Granted it was against Fullerton, but LBSU is deep with talent. I’m glad Hawaii played at the Pyramid early in the year while the Beach was getting their new coaching staff and players on the same page, because right now they are playing really good volleyball. They blocked Poly way better than Hawaii did. I can see them giving Hawaii’s outsides lots of trouble except, as Iron Man would say, “We have an Amber.”

Their conference loss was attributed to their bad passing (their libero was out with an injury) which in turn affected the rest of their game plus Cal Poly was playing flawless defense. It should be an exciting weekend of Wāhine volleyball.

Jane Croson 2011 kanani was something special ... hit .286 on her way to 3rd team AA honors. croson hit just .217 on the season. but i remember she tended to show up for the big matches ...
