Starting the 2022 discussion thread. This first post can be a " living document." Info will be added as it becomes available. First -- the Roster. Here's the players who we anticipate returning, based on the 2021 roster. The parentheses are the 'class' that the player is rising to. The positions don't always match the roster. Instead, I went with how they were used in 2021, and/or what they could potentially be used for in 2022. If it changes, I'll adjust it. 1) S - Kate Lang (Soph) ( 2021 BW 1st Team, All-Frosh) 2) S - Mylana Byrd (Sr) 3) MB - Amber Igiede (Jr) ( 2021 BW 1st Team, AVCA All-Reg HM, 2019 BW 1st Team/All-Frosh, AVCA All-Reg HM) 4) MB - Anna Kiraly (Soph) 5) OH - Riley Wagoner (Jr) 6) Opp/DS - Kendra Ham (Jr) 7) OH/Opp/MB - Braelyn Akana (Jr) 8) Opp/MB - Tiffany Westerberg (Jr) 9) Opp - Annika De Goede (Soph) 10) L - Tayli Ikenaga (Soph) Second -- Incoming Recruits & Transfers 11) S - Jackie Matias ( incoming Fr, UH announcement) 12) OH - Caylen Alexander ( incoming Fr, UH announcement) 13) L/DS - Talia Edmonds ( R-Sr transfer from MSU completed, UH announcement, Star-Advertiser story) 14) OH - Chandler Cowell ( Grad transfer from SMC confirmed, Maui News article, UH announcement.) 15) MB - Kennedi Evans ( R-Sr., transfer from Utah completed, UH announcement) Third -- Graduating or Non-Returning Players. --Brooke Van Sickle, OH (BW POY, AA-HM) --Skyler Williams, MB (BW All-Conf) --Janelle Gong, DS --Martyna Leoniak, OH/Opp (Soph) ( transfer to NC State completed) --Mia Johnson, OH (Soph) ( transfer to TAMU confirmed) --Ilayda Demirtas, OH/Opp (R-Fr) ( transfer to FIU confirmed) Fourth -- the Staff ... --Robyn Ah Mow, Head Coach ( 2019 & 2021 BW COY, sideline reaction) --Kaleo Baxter, Assistant Coach--Nick Castello, Assistant Coach--Added: Skylan Engleman, Volunteer Assistant Coach ( news blurb) -- Associate Coach - Will Angelica Ljungquist return? Will this be filled by another (promotion of an assistant, or outside hire)? -- DOVO - Will this be filled in 2022? -- Any other staffing needs? Fifth -- The 2022 Schedule and confirmed non-conference opponents ... --Texas A&M ( 8/26), Pittsburgh ( 8/27), San Diego ( 8/28) ( see discussion, additional confirmation, and here) --Texas St ( 9/1), West Virginia ( 9/2), UCLA ( 9/4) ( see discussion, and here, additional confirmation) --USC ( 9/9 & 9/10) ( see discussion, and from USC thread) Sixth -- The recruitment front ... --Stella Adeyemi (OH, 2023) ( commitment, article, personal statement video clips, more clips, quick highlight, clip reel, accolades, NLI signing, UH NLI announcement) --Tali Hakas (OH, 2023) ( discussion, match play (#6 in white), UH NLI announcement) --Miliana Sylvester (MB, 2024) ( verbal commitment, clips) --Madeline Way (MB, 2024) ( verbal commitment, clips, more clips) Let the discussions begin ... Let me know if I missed anything! Some lingering thoughts too from the 2021 thread. ***** ***** 2022 Match Uploads

I think near the last 3rd of the season, Akana basically became the 3rd option at OH after VanSickle/Wagoner. (It looked like she started to train where when Johnson went out, the last few times she subbed in, I think it was for an OH) It made sense they would switch her over being she was the shortest one of the OPPs and not to mention, most teams don't go 4 deep at the OPP position lol. It's usually only 2 (3 in the case of a 6-2 team)
Either way, at least one of the OPPs need to switch over to the left side. I suspect Alexander will be competing there as well.
Can we turn Ham into a DS or Serving Specialist?

Known for awhile now, but didn’t want to post until confirmed but leoniak is in the portal. Not the best news but it’s ok. Wish her nothing but the best.

Now that we have a confirmed scholarship we are going to get a dozen of "Wouldn't it be great if Skylar Fields chose Hawaii?" posts...

Wish her nothing but the best. this is a bummer, if true. i'll adjust the op when i see it's official. thanks for the heads up. would have liked for her to stay and see what leap in improvement she could have made in her sophomore year.

Sad Leoniak chose to leave. I was looking forward to her development as a Wahine.
Now hopefully De Goede and Demirtas work their butts off in the off season. There's a lot of potential there.

IMO= If you get put into match and can't produce time after time, maybe it's a good idea for her to move on.Her defense is pretty good, but her offense not so .

You think she’d be transferring to a team that’s not at Hawaii’s expected level? I think iif anything she’d join a pac 12 team or big 10 or SEC.

I actually thought she was starting to produce when Westerberg replaced her permanently. She had two solid hitting games in a row. Imho she can get a P5/Top 25 school. They are going to look at her tape and see her potential.
