Rutherford has experience playing RB defense when she was also a setter in club/high school. Forgot about that, as long as she can pass well, she will be a great six rotation player. well opposed usually don't pass so that won't be a requirement from her. she may step in to receive at times if they are really struggling but her purpose of playing backriw would be offense

Don't mean to hijack the thread but am hoping for some helpful sightseeing advice. I'm coming to Lexington for the KY NE match and would welcome any suggestions regarding things to do, places to go, food to eat, or any "must see/do" type of activities. I'm driving and will be arriving late Friday. Staying at an Airbnb on a working horse farm which I have a strong interest in because of family connections in the horse racing industry. I've never been to Kentucky and quickly picked this as one of the away matches to attend this year. Since the match isn't till Sun at 3, I'll have all day on Sat and much of Sun to explore. Please feel to DM me with any feedback/suggestions. Thanks in advance!! You may now return to your regularly scheduled programming.

Is Rutherford playing six rotations? I expect her to and even be in the serve receive rotation. Rutherford is my prediction for breakout star in the NCAA this year. I think she’ll surprise a lot of people on the defensive end. Lol. Highly doubt it, shes been a setter/rightside all through club so don't think she will develop passing skills that quick.

She passed in the same rotations in both club and high school ball. She’s actually got great ball control with her platform.

Rutherford is also passing in this video as well, and looked pretty good against Louisville. I don’t see any way she doesn’t play 6 rotations. She’s my pick for SEC Player of the Year

Well yeah, of course she looked good in the highlights. UofL served her a bunch and the good pass to bad pass ratio was about the inverse of what you want (The highlight at :30 is even off a shanked Rutherford pass). We hid her a lot more against UD, I only remember her passing 4 or 5 times all game. I do think she'll play all 6 ros and I'm sure she's put a ton of off-season effort into this so hopefully she's improved, but I'm not sure we can count on her being a consistent passer for us quite yet.

But the point was about whether or not she had experience passing. Which she does. It’s not far fetched that she’d be in the passing rotation considering she was training for it in the spring. Every passer shanks a ball every now and then, and she hasn’t consistently been in a passing rotation at UK until now. I expect she’s working on it and improving on the foundation that is there.

She did some impressive things in the videos, yes, but there’s other reasoning there too. With both Skinner and Stumler gone, the offense is much more open to rely on Rutherford. She obviously has great offensive skill, is a good blocker, and now will get to add stats from the service line and backrow defense/offense. Kentucky was picked to win the SEC and I think Rutherford will be the best all around player for Kentucky, therefore I see it as a real possibility she contends for POY

But also I only posted the videos because you said you highly doubt she passes. The videos show that she already has been doing so.

The videos show that she already has been doing so. she had ti be in the passing rotation in the spring. it either had to be her or tealer. stumper was only playing 3 rotations and both outsides were being subbed in the back row. when dealer was front row she wasn't going to pass so Rutherford was pulled back. now that kentculy will have two true OHs playing, they will likely be the main passers along with Beavin and walker. I think they will Rutherford ready to hit the D ball in serve receive and not have to worry about passing. there may be times if someone is really struggling that Rutherford will be pulled into reception but I don't think it'll be a game plan to start with

I doubt both of UK’s OHs play six rotations. Walker will be the DS for OH2 (likely Lamb) and then if Rutherford is struggling in the backrow she would also be replaced by a DS.

I believe you are correct about the second OH being subbed. But they have faith in RR's defense and she brings a lot of options on offense in the backrow as well. If she finds her confidence, and I believe she will, she will be a force.

im nervous for Kentucky this year. I think they have the pieces to win the SEC again and be a top 10 team nationally. but I could see things going wrong. it all depends on the passing honestly. Grome is great and they have good hitters but no big out of system players. walker and Beavin should be good as usual, Rollins is really gonna have to find her groove there and I think the team will be in great shape
