im nervous for Kentucky this year. I think they have the pieces to win the SEC again and be a top 10 team nationally. but I could see things going wrong. it all depends on the passing honestly. Grome is great and they have good hitters but no big out of system players. walker and Beavin should be good as usual, Rollins is really gonna have to find her groove there and I think the team will be in great shape I think Rollins will find her groove during the conference season. She might struggle at first, but one great thing about Kentucky coaches, they can teach passing. The improvement of Avery Skinner was pretty amazing. But that is also a testament to Avery's determination.

If Rutherford plays 6-rotations (not passing), then you can sub her out for Whitworth, Franxman, Melby, or Berezowitz. Not saying all of them are better passers than Rollins, but Rollins not being able to pass isn't some huge dealbreaker for the Cats. Walker + Beavin alone should ease passing concerns about next year. Biggest concern, IMO, is LS production. Replacing Skinner and Stumler is no small feat.

I truly think that Rutherford will take on a big part of the Offensive load. She and Grome are really starting to connect.

Final shot to max out on her college potential. Will her passing be better with some of Skinner’s training? If not, how will Grome adjust to having to move to get to more balls? Lamb is a mystery, how consistent can she be in her first starting season? Will the Rutherford revelation take place? Will Tealer still be awesome…ok this last one isn’t really in doubt to me 😌

Wisconsin Badger fan here, looking forward to visiting Lexington and attending the UK-UW volleyball match on Friday, September 9th! It will be our first time in Lexington.
We plan to arrive in the Memorial Coliseum area around 4-430pm so we have a couple hours to check out the area and have dinner before attending the 7pm match. I have two questions...
1) What do you recommend for parking in the Memorial Coliseum area? We are regular hikers, so are fine with parking in a distant spot as long as it's a safe walk back to the car after the volleyball match.
2) Are East End Tap and Table and The Southern Deli & Tavern good choices for our pre-match dinner? Or do you have other restaurants in the Memorial Coliseum area that you recommend? We are looking for a clean, tasty, casual brewpub-type place to eat, not a fancy/expensive formal restaurant.
Thanks for any tips/suggestions!

Thanks for any tips/suggestions! 1) There's a pretty big lot behind Memorial, it usually fills up but if you're there a few hours before the game you shouldn't have an issue. If not, there are a couple lots on Linden Walk behind the Alumni Center. And if for whatever reason those are full too, you always can park on the streets around Memorial. Maxwell, MLK, Lexington, Linden Walk, etc. Also, meters are free after 5pm.
2) Both great spots! Personally I think I prefer the Southern Deli, that's my go-to when I'm heading to Rupp for bball games. Love their burgers and sandwiches and I think you get more for your money there, but Tap & Table has the more interesting dishes and a bigger beer selection. Can't go wrong either way.
If you're looking for a spot after the game, check out Kentucky Native Cafe. Just a quick walk from the Coliseum down Maxwell, it's in the back of a florist/greenhouse. Super cool place to chill outside and have a beer or glass of wine.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions of things that first-time visitors should see or do within a mile or two of Memorial Coliseum, please let me know. Otherwise, we'll just walk the neighborhoods to get some exercise and check it out before heading to Memorial for a 4- or 5-set battle of elite teams. :-) Thanks!

Went to the Kentucky/Dayton scrimmage today. They won 25-22,25-23,24-26,25-21. Looks like it’s gonna be a journey this year, but I believe they have elite 8 potential if they figure some kinks out. Gonna have a pretty balanced offense and hopefully grome gets the middles really involved. Looked a little rusty in serve receive (looked like their game against Illinois), but Dayton had some good servers.
Summary: teamwork is gonna make the dream work this year. No big stars, but I do believe they’ll get another SEC ring

I saw the UKVB twitter account post the score from the first set and someone must have told them not to do it again because that was the only score they posted all day lol. Did the backups play at all? Anything notable from them? Today might be the last day we see a few of them for a while.

-UK struggled with serve receive. Beavin looked great and Walker did ok but outside of that, there wasn’t other great strengths in that department. -Rollins, Rutherford, & Lamb all had great swings and lead the way offensively but all 3 had some breakdowns in serve receive. -Tealer was great when she was set and put the ball down about every time she had the chance. -Uk was out of system so much from serve receive it was hard to utilize the middle but Bell also had some highlights in the middle. Bench: Whitworth and Berez were pretty solid off the bench in defense and serve receive. Frankman & Melby struggled on the outside in sets 3 & 4. I was impressed with Jenkins at setter, she set all of set 4 and UK pulled it out. -Grome did well with what passes she was getting. -No Goetzinger today. Out with injury.

Jordyn was exciting for me to watch and hopefully she’ll be able to play some games this year. Bella looked like a veteran on the court and should pick up right where she left off last season. Would love to see the connection between Z and Grome get better, but Z was terminating per usual when she got a good set. Rollins was a little timid to start, but played very smart and was contacting the ball nice and high. Think she’ll have a good year with a team that supports her. Lamb was hammering the ball whenever she got the chance. She’ll just need to pick up that out of system game. Went to the Kentucky/Dayton scrimmage today. They won 25-22,25-23,24-26,25-21. I bought a 3 game package (1 ticket for each) for the University of Kentucky against Wisconsin on Sept 9, Louisville on Sept 14, and Nebraska on Sept 18. I just committed to being the director of a film project and my dream of seeing the Huskers play volleyball in person for the first time is not going to happen. I got a great deal on the tickets. $32 dollars for the whole package. The seat is in the 8th row of Section B, which is on the sideline and the end of the court. Tickets are to be downloaded to a smart phone via the UK app. If anybody wants to take these off my hands, please send me a message.
