Thanks. That's about what I thought. I think for volleyball, playing in a huge arena is actually a negative. And the TeraFlex is really nice.
Anyone know how many other Big West schools have a TeraFlex floor? UCI will be getting TaraFlex next season for men's & women's www.instagram.com/ucimvb/p/CX2LXE9MOFS/?utm_medium=copy_link

How much is Taraflex... looks expensive... I couldn't find an official source, but according to this post, they were running between $70K-$90K in 2018.

How much is Taraflex... looks expensive... is there any real data to show taraflex is actually better?

Last season LBSU's two glaring weaknesses was in coaching and setting. Both of those areas have been addressed with the hiring of Hildebrand and by bring in a good setter in Meyer. These two up grades alone with greatly improve next year's team.
I expect Hildebrand will bring in a couple more high impact transfers making LBSU a very dangerous team next season.

If the conference is serious about getting better can't they mandate some minimum standards for all the members. Like all the members must get a TeraFlex floor.
I think you inadvertently hit the nail on the head. The conference isn't serious about volleyball. Perhaps some of the individual schools are...but the conference as a whole? Nope.

I think you inadvertently hit the nail on the head. The conference isn't serious about volleyball. Perhaps some of the individual schools are...but the conference as a whole? Nope. have to disagree...a LOT... on this one The Big West agreed to sponsor MVB, they didn't have to. They are the only D1 sports league that does sponsor MVB. and then as soon as they had 6 teams (including Sacramento), they've sponsored and help grow Beach VB. as difficult Northridge has had in winning Big West titles, you have to hand it to them, they were one of the first to sponsor Beach VB, they are one of the only universities out there that sponsor MVB, WVB, & Beach VB. And the Big West has 3 (Haw/LB/North) that sponsor all three. That's tied with teh Pac-12 for most, and Pac-12 temporarily lost Stanford for MVB so to say the Big West isn't serious about Volleyball is contradicted by the facts. IN fact, one could argue that relatively speaking the Big West is at the top of leagues in promoting VB. Now, has their WVB indoor struggled recently? No question, some of that is frankly the recent 6 year slide of Long Beach, as well as Hawaii slipping a bit in rankings. In 2014, they were both top 25. This year not a single top 25 team. But to say the Big West isn't serious about VB is just not true. Yes, the conference doesn't have the resources of others, but that isn't an indication of a lack of seriousness.

Hawai'i may be "slipping" a bit in rankings, but 2021 was a cluster # for the Big West. In 2019 the last full season the Big West played, Hawai'i was the top 18th team and got to host as the 12th seeded team. The Big west failed our girls when they correctly choose to forego the 2020-2021 Spring Covid season that truly gave all the other conferences (except The Ivy League) a huge advantage when the 2021 season began. To me, the Big West struggled especially during pre-conference matches mostly due to lack of playing since 2019. Think about that, the Big West had not played since 2019. While most of the other conferences just finished playing in April of 2021. And yes there are other factors to consider, especially when the top teams of the Big West had very young teams. And then Covid and the state's regulations that restricted practices (Hawai'i). The truth is, the Big West was not prepared as best as it could to compete. And individual teams were trying to figure out how to improve in season during conference play. Hopefully, this will only make the Big West stronger next season if Covid doesn't rear its ugly head again.

Zayna Meyer, Jayden Nembhard, and Callie Schwarzenbach transfer in. Cursty Le Roux to the coaching staff. Nice moves so far imo.

Very exciting times at LBSU right now. Hildebrand has hit the ground running and has plugged the team's holes in short order. There is some nice talent returning, and with these key additions, LBSU should make a big leap in overall play. Outside of the transfers individual play I am looking forward in seeing how Schwarzenbach impacts the team with her experience and winning attitude. She has preformed at a very high level and her approach to the game will be appreciated. Go Beach!

to put it into perspective.
the Beach's last 3 impact transfers since 2014 were Janelle Hudson, Nele Barber, Tyler Spriggs over a period of 5 years - all super solid and then some
Tyler has in ONE SINGLE MONTH assimilated an arguably comparable trio in Meyer, Schwarzenbach, & Nembhard. and granted Meyer has yet to be a proven D1 setter
...and...not done yet
hence a ton of excitment

A lot has transpired since the close of the volleyball season. The coaching changes and the addition of new players has been very exciting for us Beach fans. I would imagine things will start moving in a more normal pace now with the typical recruiting and training responsibilities. The coach still needs to announce his volunteer assistant but most of the major things are in place.
With two players graduating and one transfer the incoming transfers maybe in a holding pattern for now. I still believe the program will add another transfer at some point in time.
I cannot be more excited about the upcoming spring season and look forward watching the matches and witnessing the growth of the returning players. Exciting times for sure.
As for the Big West, I expect the top half of the conference to be improved. I expect Hawaii, Cal Poly, UCSB and now LBSU to be capable of making a move upward in overall volleyball play. I also expect UCI to make improvements as that program has two very exciting players to build around. The Big West programs have something to build upon now with the vacant season behind them and their younger players with one year of experience as a college athlete. Now if only the bottom third would make a push upward in overall play.
