I really don’t like this model and hope now with expanded teams in the tourney they go back to rotating the host school each year. BE has schools in so many cool cities that they could showcase. If this tournament is in DC or New York, what would the crowd sizes be? To be fair... Attendance, last year, in Milwaukee wasn't significant. I think having the tournament during Thanksgiving when a lot of the student body wasn't in town didn't help. I assume there will be a larger crowd this year. Nebraskans tend to show up, from what I've observed over the years.

It's whoever won the previous year's regular season, unless they hosted the previous year. Then it goes to #2. This policy was put in place since the 2016 tournament at Butler, who had not won the previous regular season. Creighton won the 2021 regular season. They did not host the tournament in 2021 (Marquette did), so they host this season. I really don’t like this model and hope now with expanded teams in the tourney they go back to rotating the host school each year. BE has schools in so many cool cities that they could showcase. Agree about there being some cool cities. However, there are two schools that actually care about volleyball. Until the rest catch up, not just no, hell no. Creighton and Marquette both do a fine job with the tournament and that shouldn't be overlooked either. If one of them sucked at hosting it, I'd be more open to a rotation.

Was hoping the Big East tourney times would be such that one could bounce back and forth between those games in Omaha and the NE games vs MN and WI in Lincoln, but oh well. How is it determined who hosts the tourney ? I appreciate the sentiment that you want to be able to go to all of it, but the Big East isn't going to try to schedule around the Big Ten team down road, and they shouldn't. Many of the fans in Lincoln probably don't even know Creighton has a team (I live in Nebraska, and if it doesn't have that N on it, it doesn't exist to many). You're an exception which I appreciate, but you're not the norm.

Is DePaul in a good (safe) part of Chicago? Lincoln Park... yes.

Lol at listing every city except Storrs. That is funny, but also wonder if it's shade being thrown at the end all, be all of sports; the 4 letter network that runs everything and ignores the Big East because they don't have rights to Big East games.

Is DePaul in a good (safe) part of Chicago? I’m Sorry but this is such a lazy, annoying, narrative, you could have asked that question about any other city on that list.

I didn't say that but your criticism seems fair. As an aside, I perceive DePaul to care about women's sports in general (this is a good thing that I support as a general rule). Why do they seem to not care about volleyball (this is a volleyball forum)?

Lol at listing every city except Storrs. UConn deserves shade after their twitter lobbed cornfield memes at Creighton during last basketball season.

Interesting comment about "caring" during an Oct 17 interview on local radio with KBB: Host: About the state of volleyball in the BE in general... how has the BE invested in volleyball to try to raise the profile of the sport as a conference? KBB: (sighs) I would say it's getting better. When we got into the BE, there were some schools that were really poorly funded. I think everyone now is at 12 full scholarships. You know, when I got to Creighton that was the biggest thing. As we were building a program, you have to be able to "get the horses," right, so you've gotta have the scholarships, so that's the first thing. So Marquette and Creighton have invested and you can see those programs are continually Top 25 programs. DePaul is now investing. Georgetown has put some investment in, so hopefully that'll start to trend up. You know, Xavier and Butler, those 2 programs are in hotbeds of volleyball talent- if I were to say "lowest hanging fruit" for schools that wanted to invest.* The academic profile of BE institutions is so high, and volleyball tends to have a lot of high academic kids, that I don't think it would take huge amounts of money to see us jump into the top 4 to 5 conferences in the country. We continue to push that, and where we need resources is- we need more money for assistant coaches, we need better travel for some programs, things along those lines that are gonna impact the student-athlete experience. We need more television coverage within the BE, you know we're on Flo Sports- we need to be on FS1, FS2. *Possible translation = Xavier and Butler don't want to invest.

I’m not sure DePaul invests much into any sports, basketball included. At least relative to the other Big East schools.

The BIG EAST could be the midwest/East Coast version of the WCC for volleyball. Maybe it already is, I don't know. Similar talent pool, worse weather, much higher national profile. KBB is right, though, too many schools aren't invested. Getting everyone(?) to 12 scholarships took decades and even then the investment on staff, facilities, and budget side is abysmal compared to what Marquette/Creighton have been doing for years.
Honestly, it feels like when the league reformed into its current structure several schools were happy to operate under the old BE tiering system which let them mostly ignore volleyball.
