How many spots will USD move up in the polls? Will they be top 10?

I think USD 10 or 11. Helps RPI that OH St beat Louisville so I think OH St stays where they are… probably 1-2 higher than USD.

BYU falls because they lost to Pitt...who lost to USD. I think Ohio State stays put. Baylor falls after losing to Pepperdine. USD has more impressive wins than Purdue, Stanford, Florida and Washington despite the one loss to Louisville. I could see USD cracking the top 10 this week.

How many spots will USD move up in the polls? Will they be top 10? I think top 10 is well deserved. The chemistry of this team mixed with deep talent is great to see. Looking forward to seeing them in person at the home opener this weekend. |

What does everyone think about the AVCA poll? Just don’t understand why USD didn’t break top 10. With what’s happened so far I think we should be closer in ranking to OSU and Pitt and why is BYU still in top 10?

I heard Madi Allen was an asset behind the line and she has been impressive so far. Grace’s hasn’t been doing the damage with her serve that we’re used to seeing and at 0 aces to 8 SEs there’s really no where for Katie Lukes to go but up. If everybody else holds steady and those two pick up, particularly if Grace does like she’s done in the past I feel like that could be the difference between very good and great for this team. Also probably have to factor serve receive somewhere in there as well.
I don’t think SMU is a pushover and then there’s Utah. Just hope USD can be consistent and take care of the business as expected. But hey, finally get to see some live volleyball tomorrow night! Let’s Go Toreros!

With what’s happened so far I think we should be closer in ranking to OSU and Pitt and why is BYU still in top 10? It's because of where they started. It's the biggest issue of the AVCA poll. It could be halfway through the season and where a team started in the preseason poll (which is largely based on the prior year results) still has a huge affect on where a team is presently ranked. It's ridiculously stupid. I mean, Purdue is sitting at #9 for, according to the AVCA voters, doing little more than going 5, at home, to a receiving votes Utah team, meanwhile San Diego has wins over two top 10 teams, on the road, yet isn't top 10..... Frankly, I don't even want the NCAA committee to be more subjective in letting in stuff like the AVCA rankings if this is the crap they are going to give us. |

Grace served really well this weekend. Kylie Pries subbing in for Katie Lukes’ serve for the most part. Grace took over the match in the second set with 7 kills and some lethal serving after USD came out flat in the first. USD won the match on their block tonight - 20 total blocks ?! That 5th set was classic USD volleyball - keeping the ball off the floor, with a sprinkle of nice offense from Edwards and Frohling. Passing breakdowns and a frequently unterminal offense makes me question their ceiling. Can these improve? Will they just keep making up for it with the block and how well they play in transition? I can see them holding on to a 10-15 spot, but playing in the WCC there just isn’t much margin for error. Hopefully Pitt, OH, and now Utah make USD look good in the weeks ahead, but mostly they just need to take care of business.

They had a lot of blocks in the sets we lost but 20 blocks is impressive.Didnt have the best game but they found a way to win and that says a lot. The team showed grit, especially in the 5th set. At one point they had a 6 or so point run without the Libero or Frohling so everyone stepped up toward the end. Not gonna lie, they gave me a scare. I have faith they’ll clean up passing and keep pushing forward so Blossom and our hitters continue to shine. They have great chemistry and so fun to watch.

That 5th set was a joy to watch. I hate the phrase “ who wants it more” and I won’t say that they did but the bodies sure were flying in the 5th.
Also, great crowd last night. Official numbers put it at over 1000. What? No way we’re there 1000. I put Friday around 500 myself with an official report of over 600, and there were definitely fewer ion Saturday than Friday. But that crowd last night was one of the most spirited I’ve been a part of. Great fun.

Finally cracked the top 10! IMO where this team belongs. Now let's see if USD can hang onto that spot through the season.
