USD barely had enough hitters to play and the backup setters played and they still swept USC I saw that Fields didn’t play but USC had a pretty complete team. Sounds promising for USD with transfers still in the plan and talented new freshmen coming in. Would liketo hear more details from this past weekend spring games from anyone who may have been there or have more info

I was told that USD is hosting several teams this Saturday the 1st. Not sure what time or if open to the public. SDSU, Cal Bap, and maybe even Pepperdine.

I arrived after the Arizona sets were completed. A man told me that they split their two sets and that the play was sloppy. USD swept the Pepperdine and Cal Baptist sets. Some of my takeaways were that our block is very strong, Ms Bennett will achieve AA status before she graduates and our serve is very good. We have the foundation to make another deep run in the tournament. USD was missing seven players. That includes the three mystery transfers.

Three mystery transfers? Including Anni Evans or three new ones that haven't been announced yet?

Anni Evans is finishing up at Nebraska; Madi Allen was not there and the two high school recruits have not reported. We'll have to wait until after May 1 to find out who the three mystery transfers are.

I have seen more action from cold molasses rolling uphill than from this thread. Seems my only option is to generate a dialogue from me to myself.

To continue my thoughts on the USD block, Leyla Blackwell and Haylee Stoner we're a wall last year. They averaged 2.5 B/S. MB Maya Kitna looked every bit as strong and athletic as them in the spring matches. Will she be redshirted? I think she is ready for high level competition now. One last thing, Leyla Blackwell has a powerful swing. She had several Breanna Edwards type swings.

Before the matches Saturday, some thoughts on setting. Isadora Tercariol set the greater portion of the plays two weeks ago. Alex Hoglund set toward the end, but mostly served. To my non-expert eye Isa looked fine. She averaged 9.11 assists per set in 2021, then last year she practiced against the # 3 ranked team in the nation for the whole season. She must have learned something from Alfee Reft and Gabby Blossom. Now she is being coached by a two-time, first team All-American setter and 2004 national champion for BYU in Carlos Moreno. The recent hire of Katie Oleksak adds another former All-American setter (Colo. St.) who will assist with film and other team duties. Whether Isa grabs the brass ring and wins the job outright or takes a second string role, I think our setting is going to be high level this coming season. As far as Anni Evans goes, Michella Chester considers her to be an impact transfer. Can't wait for some answers.

Coach Petrie loves a good amount of healthy competition in the setting position and always has. The transfer coming in hopefully lights a fire in Isa and one of them will for sure earn that spot in practice. Petrie has also been known to run a 6-2 given competent enough opposites. They last ran one with Newsome/Madill in the 2018 season. For me personally… I love hoglund’s game. She works hard, makes good decisions, makes big plays… if only she was 5’9
