WELCOME 2022
This will be the final season for 3 AAC teams: HOUSTON. UCF. and. CINCiNNATI.
This year promises to be a shootout with several great story lines. Can anyone knock off UCF? Who does Tulane get for a new head coach after Jim Barnes has taken off to the Big 10? Can Houston put the whole year together and break through to the NCAAβs? (Yes). Does Wichita, SMU, Cinci emerge? Someone new step up? Who does Temple hire?
COME ON 2022. Letβs get our $&@!? straight and have a somewhat normal year full of great stories and competition!! πππππππππππππππππππ

Some conference goals:
-UCF/McKenna Melville need to break through to the Sweet 16. They were so close this year. -Houston has got to make the NCAA Tournament and they MUST schedule tougher in the non-conference. -Temple needs to schedule the absolute easiest non-conference they can imagine.

Houston returns everyone but their DS. They didnβt really put anything up for their incoming freshmen so I donβt know much, but this should be a talented, veteran team. They should build on a pretty good season and hopefully enter the tournament next year.

UCF adding some players. I guess the question is who gets second.

I'm looking forward to watching UCF this season. I do think they get Sweet 16 this year and they'll be a trendy Cinderella pick to go deeper depending on their draw.
Has the AAC given up on their P6 dreams as a result of the defections?

This will be the last year the AAC has a chance to make some P5 noise. And I think they will. UCF and Houston will be top 25 Cinci, Wichita, and some others will have a good year. Couple of new coaches in the league. Either way Iβm looking forward to a full, no Covid, season. And I pray we arenβt at war!

Any news from the AAC teams? Havenβt heard anything that happened out of Houston. A few teams adding players lately. Any spring scrimmage news??

Still havenβt heard any update on the UH situation. Unclear how nothing could happen from what went public by the players, but Iβm no administrator soβ¦.
Excited for this upcoming season, it canβt come soon enough. I think itβs hard to nail down all the updates between coaching changes, the transfer portal mayhem, and the incoming classes to determine where everyone falls.
Other than UCF basically bringing back their entire roster minus Watson, but adding a few big transfers, where do we feel teams will end up? As schedules come out and rosters begin to finalize Iβll definitely take a deeper dive into our beloved P6 conference π

Has the AAC given up on their P6 dreams as a result of the defections? I don't think true power status was ever a possibility for the AAC. They were kind of like the Mountain West circa 2009 before TCU, Utah and BYU left. In both cases, it was always much more likely that the top schools would leave at some point rather than the entire conference being recognized at that level.

What is offical is "autonomy" conferences. The five "P5" conferences were granted "autonomy" to set their own rules in several areas, primarily related to football. IIRC initially it was six conferences given this autonomy, but the Big East lost that right when they became a non-football conference. P5 or Power 5 evolved as the commonly used term for these five conferences, primarily based on the fact that these were considered the five strongest football conferences and have also become the five conference receiving the very large TV contracts.

Sure, Power 5 (or Power 6 before it or in reference to men's basketball) is colloquial.
