They just made PSU look awful and specifically cheap. Before anyone chimes in with anything, I’m talking about optics. This is a great hire, I wish her luck. No but really though, the fact that she was open to a Head Coaching job in the first place was one thing, it’s another to miss out on pretty much the only universally desired hire post Russ Rose. Congrats to Salima but who can you honestly hire now at Penn State and not have it seem like a disappointment? I wonder if people factor in that maybe salima didn’t want the head job at psu? I’m sure she was gonna about as much money as a first year head coach can get whenever she went. She spent a long time at psu as the top assistant on staff, that’s a very involved position and maybe she just wanted a new experience. Everyone acting like penn state dropped the ball and didn’t offer her enough money but maybe she just wasn’t that interested in being a head coach there?

As I said also maybe Rockwell was never psu choice either. Maybe it was fisher from the start

Hey the set her up there before to take over. Was paying her head coach pay and made a new title just for her and she left anyway. Who’s to say they wanted her back. I’m not saying that they could have but they might also not have

I’m just saying they’re many different scenarios that could have played out. And if choice is indeed fisher that’s atleast even with if not better then Rockwell

I have read the posts and the conjecture of presumption of high salary: but ND has been suspiciously on the low side in the ACC salary surveys. So besides VT conjecture i was asking for real numbers?? Not sure on the real number, but just look at who they hired. That's not someone who was going to come for a low salary. I dont know what posters think are high or low salary’s. I would guess that a the ACC salaries are much lower than the big ten salaries: from a survey a few years ago the highest paid ACC coach would be in the bottom 3 of the big ten. Note: not all ACC coaches salaries are published because they are private schools!

Yep, plus image is probably big for them. Salima being such a respectful and respected figure on TV for so many years probably made this a slam-dunk hire for them.

It would be so fun to merge the PSU, ND and Pitt threads right now. It's like a soap opera, or information coming out at the scene of a major earthquake.

Salima gives instant credibility with pretty much any recruit in the country. It's hard to put a dollar value on that.

I do not know if that necessarily holds true for high school girls. Other posters have posted that Salima will get her pick of the top players from Chicago's Catholic High Schools. Do others feel that way? Is Salima Catholic?

Do others feel that way? Is Salima Catholic? Not sure, but I don't think Salima needs to be Catholic to get Catholic (or non-Catholic--it's a great school) girls to come to Notre Dame. Salima is one of the more visible people in the volleyball community due to her broadcasting, so I imagine most recruits know who she is. And even if they don't, she has a very impressive resume, so she can talk to the recruits about her playing and coaching and even broadcasting career. Now, that doesn't mean that she'll get every top Catholic recruit to come to Notre Dame because every recruit has their own priorities, but I think she will recruit very well overall.
