Also, very smart move for Rockwell. Why try and follow in the footsteps of the great Russ Rose when you can forge your own legacy? The likely result was that she was not going to be able to match his greatness, probably not even come close. So rather than always living in the shadow of Russ Rose’s accomplishments, she gets to have a clean slate. It’s going to be much easier to recruit to Notre Dame. Some would say Russ was successful because of Salima, but yeah, I basically agree with this. Russ Rose won 5 championships without Rockwell on the coaching staff. With all due respect, those people are wrong.

Those transfers from ND in the portal must be punching the air right now. it’s the new recruits that asked to be released from their nli’s that are probably the most regretful?? That’s a missed opportunity for sure.

Overall endowment isn't necessarily directly in correlation to athletics spending. All schools distribute from their endowments differently and all have preferences about what they're going to do with endowment money. They even have different rules as to what needs to be done and who needs to approve expenditures. Don't get me wrong, overall endowment can matter, but it's not always the end all be all of athletics spending. All I mentioned was that The University of Texas has the second largest endowment in the country, behind Harvard. I didn't say anything re: spending, distribution, etc. UT already has the highest athletics expenditures and almost the highest revenues. It's one of the only athletic programs that is self-sufficient, which means it never has to borrow from the University, nor the Permanent University Fund (the UT Endowment). I know; I wasn't trying to be hostile or contradictory. But a couple of people were discussing athletics funding and it became an exchange about endowment size. So I made that point. You're definitely right - TX has a big endowment and insane money for athletics.

I mean, doesn’t notre dame have more spending power than nearly every single college out there? Pretty much. The only P5 schools with larger endowments than Notre Dame are Stanford and Texas A&M. And before anyone brings it up, yes I'm aware that there are restrictions on endowments, but it still speaks to just how wealthy of a university Notre Dame is. Did you mean to say Texas instead of Texas A&M? University of Texas endowment is over twice the size of A&M.

is penn state playing penny pincher now or was it just too good of an offer?? I think she’s going to be one of the 3 highest paid coaches in the country. Penn State isn’t a penny pincher for being unable to match that.

No, Texas wasn't on the list of the top 10 that I looked at when I Googled Notre Dame's endowment. I'm not sure why they weren't on there. I was surprised to see Texas A&M on there but not Texas, but I didn't look into it further. I probably should have, so that's my mistake.
