Monson is definitely coming back with what she just commented on the release Didn't see her comment- was it pretty definitive? “today is a good day. here we go!!!”

This is exciting. It's unexpected and sort of thrilling to see what she can do at ND.

Also, very smart move for Rockwell. Why try and follow in the footsteps of the great Russ Rose when you can forge your own legacy? The likely result was that she was not going to be able to match his greatness, probably not even come close. So rather than always living in the shadow of Russ Rose’s accomplishments, she gets to have a clean slate. It’s going to be much easier to recruit to Notre Dame. From her previous comments, I'm thinking this had much to do with firm commitments of support she wanted and commitments as to the lifestyle she wants coming back to coaching. With ND admin and a private school, I would not be surprised if she thought admin commitments would be honored over the years, no matter what changes were made in the administration. Add to it that it might be easier to move up in a conference other than the Big Ten, South Bend might have looked better.

Wow.. Salima was really that tired of having to pretend to be neutral whenever asked about choices by the NCAA selection committee that it forced her back into coaching!

Those transfers from ND in the portal must be punching the air right now. Serious question, besides Monson, were any of those players worth keeping? If so, who? I have not been following their program, but I will from now on.

I have not been following their program, but I will from now on. The program was littered with Top 100 recruits. There was no shortage of talent.

There’s a lot better players out there than the ND kids in portal.

All things being equal, and ignoring the whole spending the huge chunk of your adult life at Penn State thing, I think I'd rather be the head coach at Notre Dame right now. Playing in the Big Ten is a huge plus for any team, but yeah, I want to agree with this sentiment right now. In the B1G we say this, but IMO it depends. It's a huge advantage to be in the Big Ten if your admin and fans support where you are. It is not an advantage if you're in the bottom third or the bottom half and your admin and fans are clamoring at the gates for significantly better performance. In my opinion, I think there's much less prestige being in the cellar of the Big Ten than at the top. And, I think it's the toughest conference to move up in.

Did you mean to say Texas instead of Texas A&M? University of Texas endowment is over twice the size of A&M. No, Texas wasn't on the list of the top 10 that I looked at when I Googled Notre Dame's endowment. I'm not sure why they weren't on there. Endowment value is like celebrity net worth - sometimes accurate, sometimes not, and captured at one specific point in time (based on the investment rates, asset values of that point in time)- often partially based on estimates. We know that Harvard and Stanford, for example, have a LOT of money in the endowment, and experts may get fairly close in their estimates, but it's as much art as science. My alma matter, Northwestern, has always had a a very nice endowment - sometimes listed in the Top 10 in the US - which surprises a lot of people. it was $9 billion not that long ago and now some estimates have it at $15 billion. Some of that increase is real actual money. But some of it is, for example, tied to real estate values. NW has a lot of real estate holdings and the value of real estate to the endowment is based on what NW could sell it for at a particular point in time -- which today is high.
Some state school endowments are the endowments for the entire "system" even if the bulk of it goes to the main school/campus.
Regardless of the exact specific numbers, the big endowment schools really are "rich."
