One of the interesting things I hadn't given much consideration to that a Michigan State fan pointed out on the hot seat thread, is how much the Larry Nassar crisis and Michigan State's handling of it had impacted the women's volleyball program. Not sure if that had anything to do with her retirement, nor how much impact it will have on the next head coach moving forward, but I feel like it will have some.

Good coach. I had not realized that Michigan State had slipped down to finish in the bottom four of the B1G in both conference and total wins. Finishing below Michigan, Maryland and Northwestern. Michigan State needs a good coach.

The following year Mike Gawlik who had been there 11 years got the head job at Central Michigan. After they left it was a revolving door of short stint assistants (besides Kelsay @ 4 years). In 2018 is when the decline started, which would be along the timeline the Carney/Gawlik recruits would be dwindling. I think Cathy is a great coach and the Nassar thing I’m sure really did effect things, but I always wonder if Russ and Mike leaving was also a big blow

Sad to see George go, she was a class act and coached a lot of exceptional teams. Unfortunately the last four years have been disappointing and that she is not retiring on a high note.
The next few years will be interesting; there are always growing pains with a new coach and a few players jumping ship could cause some big problems for the next few seasons.

In any case, we'll get to see if a change at the top makes a difference, starting with who the AD manages to attract for the job.

I'm happy for Cathy- she's leaving a legacy behind. I know her fairly well, and she's one of the classiest people I've met.
I'm an MSU alum, and I will always fondly remember explaining to the person sitting next to me that "We aren't that bad. They're just... REALLY good" in 2009 when Penn State came to the Jenison. That match was over before the song on my iPod Shuffle finished.
I think this is a really good job at a school with great resources and deep pockets for athletics. The community is moving on and working on healing post Na**ar, but a LOT is going into this and the school is handling it very delicately and appropriately IMO. Top ten programs in both football and men's basketball makes it an attractive landing spot for other athletes. I hope MSU pulls out the stops for this hire. The state of Michigan is absolutely oozing with talent (I think their final four matches at the HS level are the most competitive of any state in the country most years), but we just can't seem to get it to stay in state as of late.
Wishing for the best for the program moving fwd.

Okay. Sarah Franklin come to Kentucky PLEASE This stuff is garbage. Players and coaches don’t need this crap. If your a booster (fan) of Kentucky, it’s actually a violation. Even if it’s sarcastic. Leave it alone. Let MSU hire a new coach and get back at it.

I'm really sad to see Cathy George go, she has always been a class act and fierce competitor. She more than held her own in the predominantly male Big Ten coaching realm. The Spartans have excellent talent on their roster and this is a really nice spot for an up and coming coach.

I think this could be an opportunity KBB considers. The expectations aren't too high, and she gets to coach in the B1G in a state with a lot of talent. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
* Putting this into the world.
Not holding my breath.
