Here are some notes from someone who went to the Rice vs A&M exhibition game on 3/11.
Rice won 3-1 despite Genny substituting very liberally.
From the looks of things, Maruska is going to take Nicole's role as full-rotation player. Made a number of nice defensive plays and digs from the backline and was one of the better servers. Nia McCardell also stood out for both her defense and serving. She and incoming freshman, Gaby Mansfield, will both be starters and likely split the roles of defensive specialist and libero. Bichelmeyer looks poised to step into a leadership role. Lola Foord played well and has a good left-handed shot. Danyle Courtley saw more playing time than anyone other than Maruska, but continued her Sophomore year struggles. Perhaps a little more assertive offensively, but she's a defensive liability and A&M kept exploiting that in their service game. Carly was Carly-- she has become so confident in her setting game, and made great sets from all over the court. Izzy Rawlings (who was used as a service specialist last season) will be Carly's backup. She saw considerably action today and did not look bad. Adekunle was used very sparingly as Genny apparently wanted to see how Shore and Kostelecky had progressed. All 3 had their moments. Kostelecky is probably our best blocker, though Bichelmeyer continues to improve in that area.
It will be interesting to see if any incoming freshman, other than Mansfield, will make an impact on the team next year.

Sorry, just got back from a cruise and didn’t really get to talk to anyone.
Only other info I got was: “ Rice dominated the first two sets using mostly starters. The Baylor players on the court looked lost at times.”
