Anyone that uses phrases like “woke mob” and “cancel culture” when people do/say/condone racist behavior is telling on themselves. They think accountability is “cancel culture.” Btw, name one person who you claim is a victim of “cancel culture” that has actually lost anything. It gets easier when the same people out themselves multiple times (see: OU Thread about Kylee McLaughlin). Meanwhile they’re claiming we are “ruining people’s lives.” The worst that would happen to these girls is being dismissed from the volleyball team. Probably not even the school. They even might be able to transfer somewhere else, given that the far right now makes it their mission to idolize and uplift anyone they think is a victim of “cancel culture.” They will graduate and get jobs and move on with their life because no matter how much they want to feel oppressed, they never really face consequences. Right wing psychos looooove to scream free speech until you say something they don’t like (Hi Ron Desantis, I’m Gay come and get me)

No one is condoning racist behavior, in fact I even said I don't condone the racist undertones in one of my first posts. But to exclude the existence of woke mobs and cancel culture and its growth in popularity over the last 3-4 years is incredibly ignorant.

I am assuming that the harassment came on fast and quick because of the thrill people get out of cancel culture, so either the people advising them suggested it, or in an act of desperation to minimize the harassments they deleted their socials to escape it while the situation gets figured out. I am not at all surprised that is what you assumed. You have very strong opinions about 'wokeness' and 'cancel culture' that are probably clouding your judgment. But the people that get super excited to post and encourage they should be kicked off the team or claim from a short clip lacking context that they are racists are not victims of clouded judgment or having a biased thought process from what both sides of the political spectrum have done to this country? But because I don't believe in being quick to jump on someone without the full story or chastise them that means I have a clouded judgment rather an a proper use of common sense?

From what I can tell watching the video, there isn’t any sound. I see the caption, but there’s no indication that’s why they’re laughing. Nor do I have any reason to believe this was brought up as a point of pride. Wouldn’t it be plausible that a college team has had discussions about our country’s racist history and it was once brought up by this player that she is embarrassed about this fact about her hometown? I’m not saying that is how it happened, but I’m not ready to write off these players for what I’ve seen so far. I'm in your boat ineedajob. I'm not ready to write these kids off just yet. The caption, with zero context, absolutely racist. Anyone of us can post a snap video and someone says something like, "The United States where we used to (insert any terrible racist thing in our history)". I would like to see the video with audio, and know what these players were talking about before and after. If they were laughing at that 1935 incident then this would indeed be very very bad, and stupid as Phaedrus says. This is exactly what is wrong with our country!

Have you been “cancelled” for something you said or did? Would love to know. Legislation to protect marginalized groups of your so called “mobs” is going backwards all over the country because of the hysteria the right loves to push, and people like you eat up.

Yes, getting dismissed from the volleyball and possibly school would be terrible for these kids, having their names plastered across the internet as racists before the whole story comes out could definitely ruin their lives and possible job prospects in the future. Who here is saying anyone is a right win pyscho, this instance has nothing to do with free speech nor has anyone mentioned it. We are talking about a small portion of a snapchat clip that people who want to scream racist got ahold up and publicized it.

If the context comes out and the video is exactly what it looks like, would this be a reasonable consequence in your view?

Look at culture in general, you have people digging up comedians old jokes lacking context from over a decade ago trying to cancel them, you have otherwise legitimate publications like Daily Beast, Business Insider, Forbes, New York Times, Vice putting out articles that jump all over people while lacking context and when there is truth brought forward these publications at the very least delete the article and rarely apologize. I am not eating anything up, I am using common sense that it must be brutal for these kids right now to have their names plastered all over google being called racists.

Kyle Rittenhouse murdered people and is now having regular meetings with elected officials and is richer than he’s ever been. I think these girls will be fine, which is the point I was making that you conveniently ignored. The fact that you want to dissect a situation to death that is pretty cut and dry, means you are out of touch with how common behavior like this is. No one is demanding these girls go to prison, we are asking for consequences for their ignorant behavior. Whether or not they “intended” to be racist is irrelevant.

"Then go through the proper channels of suspension, sensitivity and inclusivity training, and encourage them to get out and do cultural charity work while also appointing people to help advise them where they went wrong and how to be better contributing members of society.
But until we know that everyone should calm down rather than promoting the excitement to ruin peoples lives."

Assuming you’re referring to Dave Chappelle? He just got a new Netflix deal for more comedy specials, in addition to still touring for sold-out shows. So, again, I ask you how anyone is being “cancelled” in a legitimate way other than being bullied on the internet for saying overtly offensive things.

It’s actually very easy to not say and then post racist things on the internet. Kind of going out of their way to say things like this, which like it or not is reflective of their character. Not defining, but it is a part of them.

First off you can be as mad as you want about the rittenhouse situation and in my opinion he should have never crossed state lines with an assault rifle to be apart of something that had extremely heightened tensions around it, but that being said he was attacked and likely would have been killed had he not shot back at the pedophile who was attacking him. He was tried and is not in prison because he went through the judicial system. The fact you want to argue their intent without full context shows exactly how out of touch you are with common sense and contributing to the type of behavior that cancel culture promotes in this country.

Not defining, but it is a part of them. So you value no credence to my point of what I said earlier, that when you would bring friends to your home town or to your college and when driving around you tell them where places are and crack a few jokes here or there. Again who is to say they were not laughing at the ridiculous statement of "here is our hanging tree where we used to hang people" it is likely well known in that town and again a shock to me that the same type of mobs that want historical statues taken down have not advocated for a tree to be removed from a horrific incident.

Well I’m going to use my common sense and look at the circumstantial evidence and say they are probably guilty! Is that better for ya?
