I was thinking about how my fave college team (UK) doesn’t seem to really benefit from playing at home all that much compared to other top programs. The fans are far from the court and idk what the turn out is usually like. What other teams don’t really seem to get much HCA ?

I remember a couple seasons ago Matt Ulmer said that his team played way better on the road than at home. Maybe it's the horrible court, but I remember he was happy that his team wasn't hosting a regional.

To me that's the biggest indicator of HCA.

I’m talking about top teams going head to head. Guess I shoulda clarified

To me that's the biggest indicator of HCA. The simple measure is the differential of record at home vs. record on the road. Though if one wanted to do a thorough analysis, they would include factors such as strength of schedule (home and away) plus score and set differential.

How about the opposite? Teams in the lower half of the Big Ten seem to have fans show up anyway. Thinking of Maryland's victory over Wisconsin last fall where the Badgers couldn't hear themselves think, and the crowd seemed to sway that five-set match.
There must be other schools that have that atmosphere - but I guess they're mostly due to rivalries.

A lot of crowds get "up" when playing a top team and especially if their team is competitive in the match, but don't have anywhere close to the same atmosphere for much of the remainder of the schedule.
