Seems like Walmer doesn’t share Joe Worsley’s level of competitiveness but I understand wanting the chance to play right away. Hopefully this is a wake up call to Charlie for next season to get his future setters more meaningful game time throughout the season and not just in emergency. Is Walmer even that good? Not trying to bash on him but to me he seemed weak e.g. Not a great jumper, slow and not physically strong. Whatever the case is though, best of luck to him. One of the best setters in his class, was name to Volleyball Magazine’s All-America First Team. He could start on any of the top programs in the country!

Eh 🤷🏾♂️ He was a highly regarded prep setter from a good SoCal Club program pero like…when it comes to high school boys volleyball, your zip code($$$) and club team can boost your stock a lot more than it may actually pan out to be at the collegiate level. I thought he was an above average setter but there are intangibles that Buchanan possesses like his height for one but also being a coaches kid and gym rat. He just didn’t play the same level of competition as frequently throughout his prep years as Walmer. Hawaii will be fine, will likely have no problem finding a transfer setter or 1-2 strong 2023s. Hope this lights a fire under Buchanan to step his off season game up.

I wonder how they determine who is better. I mean, Buchanan got offers from UH, UCLA, USC, Stanford and Pepperdine while Walmer got offers from UH, UCI and UCSB.
Walmer already got his national championship ring so I guess it’s now time to get more PT. I feel we should be fine with Buchanan. He just needs more rep with the first team.

I think everyone thinking Walmer is better just doesn’t know what they’re talking about tbh lol Maybe Walmer was just the better server and defender, that’s why he got more looks when Thelle was out

People forget that Thelle at one time was beat out by Sheward. And now he has guided this team to two Natty's. I'm certainly not worried about Buchanan. He is training under some amazing company. Do I wish Jack stayed? Oh hell yeah! He was our heir apparent. But basically riding the bench for another season and only coming in as a serving sub....especially with his kind of talent...I know he doesn't want to give up a whole other year when he could start immediately some place else.

Buchanan is 6’8 and you can’t teach height. What he lacks in floor defense he can probably make up in blocking. If he trains under Thelle next year I hope he can be as terminal as how Thelle is.

If Buchanan does not pan out as backup, will Sheward go back to setting?? I see we only have two setters on the roster and not that many other options in libero since Sharp is also gone.

Like where are all these comparisons between the 2 coming from? Buchanan hasnt taken the floor enough times to really know who’s better. Also, maybe Walmer didn’t have a choice but to transfer. The warrior roster has been jammed up the past few seasons

I’m sure Wade will be looking for one for next season. They can still land someone mid year but I’m not sure how many want to transfer here and sit behind the best player in the conference. My guess for this season is Wade will go with 2 setters and have Shewie be the emergency setter. For backup libero, I guess they can put Choy there or even maybe Kana’i Akana if things get desperate. Maybe a couple of local walk on setters just for practices?

Well, Milan has been in Europe recruiting so we see who he can land. And Charlie been heavily recruiting in the states.
