Wade said the team is looking to leave Monday, “arrive kind of midday Tuesday to live scout the quarterfinal on Tuesday and play that winner.” Sounds like UH is taking a connecting flight to DC/Virginia. Sounds like they’ll be taking American Airlines? That’s my guess because they took a nonstop flight from HNL to Phoenix last week. Any aviation experts in the house who took that HNL-DC flight in the past? How is it? My guess is their connecting flight is LAX, Phoenix or Dallas DFW

This one got lost in the shuffle with everything happening last week ... a good article on how Hawaii's local recruits are doing at Moanalua ... with some good quotes from coach Cabanting on their play ... will add it to the Warriors' links on pg 60 of this thread ... ********** 'Big 3' of Hawaii signees hopes to propel Moanalua volleyball to deep playoff runBy Brian McInnis Apr. 21, 2023, Spectrum News Moanalua hitter and Hawaii signee Justin Todd elevated for a kill against Nanakuli in the OIA quarterfinals at Moanalua on Thursday night. (Spectrum News/Brian McInnis) Excerpt: HONOLULU — Countless times Thursday night, a player standing head and shoulders above the competition came flying in for a swing that found a seam in the defense. Make that three players. The Moanalua boys volleyball team is suddenly bristling with weaponry this season, infused by a group of University of Hawaii signees who decided to relocate to the islands ahead of their college careers. Kai Rodriguez (6-foot-4), Zack Yewchuk (6-7) and Justin Todd (6-8) are hard to miss, and they rarely missed in a 25-16, 25-14, 25-9 sweep of over-matched Nanakuli in the Oahu Interscholastic Association quarterfinals in Moanalua’s gym. ... “It’s been a high level of play. It’s making everybody a lot better,” Cabanting said. “I think the best part of it is they’re great kids. No attitude problem. I think that was one of the big things that I thought. Whenever you have very talented kids, that comes with that. (But) they’re very good kids. They get along with the group that are here, and then of course the skill, really high-level skill.” ... Said Cabanting, “ Kai sees the whole court. He can hit over, around blocks and be able to find those areas that defense is giving them, and be pinpoint accurate about it. Zack is very physical. The physicality in itself is just going to be the power hits, power serves, and then J.T., just height and physicality. His reach, I mean, people are going to have to reach really high to get to where he’s at in terms of hitting.” Full story: spectrumlocalnews.com/hi/hawaii/sports/2023/04/21/-big-3--of-hawaii-signees-hopes-to-propel-moanalua-volleyball-to-deep-playoff-run

Warriors seeded second in NCAA MVB TournamentCindy Luis April 23, 2023 Excerpt: It’s a different type of waiting game for the Hawai’i men’s volleyball team. After winning the Big West’s automatic berth into the NCAA tournament on Saturday, the Warriors were flying back to Honolulu when the bracket was announced. Hawai’i (28-2) knew there would be another trip back to the continent, this time to Fairfax, Va. The question was when the Warriors would have to make their sixth trip across the Pacific Ocean. It will be a little later than some expected. Hawai’i was named the second seed in the national tournament and has a bye into the May 4 semifinal at EagleBank Arena (1:30 p.m. HST). The two-time defending national champion awaits the winner of the May 2 second-round match between third seed Penn State and the victor of the April 30 first-round match between Ohio State (22-9) and King (16-15) (noon HST). Many predictions had Hawai’i as the third seed with EIVA champion Penn State as No. 2. That was how the RPI rankings were Saturday night after the conference championship tournaments were completed. UCLA (MPSF champion) was at 1 in the Ratings Percentage Index (strength of schedule), followed by Penn State (EIVA champion), Hawai’i (Big West champion), Long Beach, Grand Canyon and Ohio State (MIVA champion). I predict it’ll be a pro Penn state crowd. I predict that more Hawaii fans will be there than Penn State fans. The largest crowd at Rec Hall this year was 1207.

I predict it’ll be a pro Penn state crowd. A lot of Penn State alumns in the metropolitan area. Per the UH coach in an interview, the team is arriving at midday next Tuesday. You think they should fly earlier? They fly next Monday but won’t arrive in DC until midday the next day. I think they have a connecting flight.

I hope Moanalua or really any public school in the state wins States this season. ILH winning everything is boring.

Fun watching the three Moanalua recruits on OC16 now. Rodriguez is so polished for such a young player. Todd is kind of inconsistent, but you see potential. Yewchek not getting much sets.
Kainoa Wade and Kamehameha are playing Punahou on other OC channel. Got it recording so I can watch later.
