The new commit Todd’s swing reminds me of Kupono Fey. Head down and all in the right arm.

I don’t think any other school stands a chance with three D-1 commits on the other side of the net. They lost to Punahou in the championship of the Clash of the West. So it can happen. But Moanalua does have so many complimentary pieces to its lineup that blend so well with the 3 commits. I'm hoping though for an OIA to finally win the State title and take it away from the ILH finally. Kamehameha can beat them.. but if I were a betting man I’d go with Moanalua!

yes, kai is such a smooth, complete player. high level, high IQ, low error ... he could contribute on day 1 at the DI level ...
todd is still a bit raw. some good skills already, but still room to up his game. not sure if he will be passing outside or slotted at opposite, but passing is an area he'll need to make strides. but really, his athleticism is what sets him apart, and is where the potential to take his game to the next level lies.
yewchuk ... looks good in the middle, but i wanna see more. he's under-utilized there in this match. (i wonder if moanalua would be better served if they had him playing opposite ...)

With all of the serve receive group returning (Chaz, Spyros and Sheward) and being seniors, I'd imagine Rodriguez gets very little playing time next season even as polished as he is already. Whether he gets redshirted or used as a serving sub (Wade used Gage and Rado as serving subs as freshmen instead of preserving a year of eligibility by redshirting) is the big question. If he get's redshirted then he'll have 4 years with Tread and Kearney...and three with Kainoa!

Also, how is LB's Olivier a RSenior? Got confused there

Nusterer burns his freshman year this season so in 2024 he is a RSoph. Olivier is a super duper senior ( 2018 high school grad)so he’s been at Beach for 6 years, he used his COVID year. Eons ago, we referred to 6+ year college students as professional students. These days, it seems to be a rarity for kids to finish college in 4.

Didnt realise the "redshirt" term carries over. I thought you'd be Redshirt Freshman --> Freshman --> Sophomore, etc We still call people "professional students", or affectionately to my friend John- "Old Balls" lol I agree, doing college in 4 was back when the parents paid for it and they had no life except for classes and 18+ credits per sem. Nowadays students do 12 creds and enjoy the out-of-classroom experience more.

Or they are holding down jobs, or juggling young families, or helping out parents, or have military obligations, or are dealing with illness, or .... well, lots of other reasons that aren't about slacking or enjoyment. When I interviewed, if they finished degrees early they got bonus points, but if they got their degree in extra years while holding down full-time responsible lives, they got extra extra credit.

If Kai raise up the depth chart and becomes the backup OH to both Chaz or Spyros, I don’t think Wade can redshirt him. We lose both Humler and Akana. We need someone to be ready in case Chaz or Spyros get hurt/sick. Kai can play against the “lesser” opponents next season and gain valuable experience instead of redshirting and going into 2025 season with Tread and Finn with no PT. Not ideal for the team to begin the season with Tread, Kai and Finn(along with Ofeck Hazan)all playing their first sets of their careers. You would like to have some of your point getters to be able to have had some D1 level experience to help ease the transition. Right now, only Nusterer will be a returning starter when Tread and Finn come aboard. Would be helpful if Kai or even Justin Todd to enter that year with PT under their belts. Have no idea what Kai Taylor(current RS freshman OH/libero) can do but I think maybe Shewie moves back to setter and Kai Taylor will take over Shewie’s libero job. Kai Rodriguez can concentrate on being an OH.

Throwing back 25 years to 1998. What happens when you find old photos in a box. Andre Breuer 1998-1999 Dejan Miladinovic 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002 (medical redshirt 2000) Dejan still holds many school blocking records - particularly block assists. No one else comes close.

Clay Stanley never made AA? no he didn't. i think he got some mpsf honors though. and then he chose to forego his final year of eligibility to turn pro. that's where he really developed into a world-class opposite. which really was the game-changer decision for him. ultimately, he thrived way more as a pro than a college player.
