No. 1 Hawai’i stuffs No. 8 Stanford to remain unbeatenBy Cindy Luis 2/11/23 Excerpt: The stuff(s) dreams are made of? Perhaps. Perhaps more than perhaps. Hawai’i dozen blocks on Saturday not only kept alive the Warriors’ unbeaten season but a couple of impressive streaks as well. Hawaii swept No. 8 Stanford 27-25, 25-19, 25-19 to move to 9-0, one of four teams left with a perfect record. The Warriors also stretched their streaks to 24 consecutive sets won and 18 wins in a row dating back to 2022 with their seventh straight 3-0 victory. Hawai’i has not dropped a set since Jan. 13 when losing Set 1 to Ball State in a 3-1 win over the Cardinals in the second match of the season. Junior opposite Dimitrios Mochlias put down a match-high 17 kills and the Warriors’ two middles — juniors Guilherme Voss and Cole Hogland combined for eight kills on 16 errorless swings over the 95 minutes in Burnham Pavilion. Hogland was in on six blocks and Voss five while each had an ace on a night when the team had six. Senior All-American setter Jakob Thelle’s lone ace gave him 104 for his career, moving him to No. 4 in the UH record book. He trails Delano Thomas (108), Costas Theocharidis (121) and Pedro Azenha (121). The Cardinal (7-4) got 13 kills from Will Rottman before the senior All-American hitter left the match with a left ankle injury in Set 3 and Stanford trailing 19-15. “What I like is how we’re playing late in sets,” Warriors coach Charlie Wade said during a ZOOM call with the media. “We’re pretty focused and productive late in sets. When it gets down to the end, the guys stay focused.” Full story: www.cindyluis.com/2023/02/11/no-1-hawaii-stuffs-no-8-stanford-to-remain-unbeaten/

There were chippy moments in the match and both teams were shown yellow cards early in the third set. from the star-advertiser article ... sounds like both sides were assessed yellow cards at the start of the 3rd set ... i think i missed that, and thought only chaz got one ... rottman probably the other on stanford's side? also from tiff wells ...

The refs definitely let things get out of hand. Both they and the Stanford livestream announcers just seemed to ignore all of the instigating by Rottman and the entire Stanford bench. Maybe they are just used to it? Did the Hawaii livestream audio mention it?

Warriors earn 2 Big West volleyball honorsBy Star-Advertiser Staff 2/14/23 Twin sweeps at Stanford netted top-ranked Hawaii two Big West men’s volleyball player of the week awards on Monday/. UH opposite Dimitrios Mouchlias’ production on the pins earned the junior the Big West Offensive Player of the Week honor. Middle blocker Guilherme Voss picked up the fourth Big West Defensive Player of the Week award of his career after leading UH’s top blocking performance of the season. Mouchlias averaged 4.83 kills per set while hitting .462 in UH’s sweeps of then-No. 8 Stanford on Friday and Saturday. He led the Warriors with 12 kills while hitting .391 in UH’s 25-22, 25-19, 26-24 win in the opener. Mouchlias was even more efficient on Saturday in putting away 17 kills on 29 swings to hit .571 in a 27-25, 25-19, 25-19 victory. He was charged with just five attack errors in his 52 attempts in the series and assisted on nine blocks. Voss finished with five of UH’s eight blocks in the opener. He had five more on Saturday, including one solo, when the Warriors set a season high with 12 1/2 blocks. Offensively, he posted 11 kills on 17 error-free attacks to hit .647 against the Cardinal and served up two aces. UH (9-0) remained the unanimous pick atop the NVA/AVCA Men’s National Collegiate Poll released Monday. The Warriors return to SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center to face Concordia University Irvine (4-5) on Thursday and Friday in their first home matches since Jan. 20.

it’s on youtube and on the hawaii v stanford thread I think socal3 is referring to the Friday match with CUI. Yes this coming Friday 2/17. If anyone knows a student who is interested in making a few bucks I can also throw my seat in. It’s in section C, Row 8. I actually have 2 single tickets for Thursday and 2 single tickets for Friday. Free and a few bucks for a stream. Thanks!
