I think this has changed over time as sports journalism has become more liberal and owners are no longer individuals tied to the community but large corporations. At least in baseball. Ummm...the only teams owned by corporations: Atlanta Braves: Liberty Media Toronto: Rogers Comunications Washington: Lerner Enterprises Every other team is owned by individuals, usually operating as LLCs. Billionaires are making money. Do a deep dive into the finances and you'll find that they do REALLY well, especially since income from their land ownership/ballparks aren't in the MLBPA agreement, nor are the revenues of regional sports networks OR developments from MLB technologies. And why go to the kneejerk/red herring response of 'sports journalism is more liberal'. Are you sure? You may want to check those sports pages from about 1947-2000 because there sure wasn't any support for Jackie R. or Muhammad Ali. Read Pittsburgh papers and you'll find Clemente was hated. Read current stuff on Bill Russell and you'll see just how "liberal" media was towards him, too. My view - sports journalism has historically been very conservative. Over the last 20 years, sports journalism has become less conservative or at least left of center. Just on observation - sports journalism being more conservative helped the pro owner narrative for decades. I don't think that narrative is coming from sports journalism today - and I would say it is more pro player (in terms of owner/player talks). I also think that the fans relationship with owners isn't what it used to be and as such are less likely to take the owners side as easily as they would have decades ago. I think this last labor negotiations in baseball - a majority of fans probably sided with the players (or it was very close). I don't think this has ever happened before. This is why I think this has changed.

Fans hate labor stoppages. And they don't like when their star players get too expensive and have to be traded away to the Yankees. (Unless they are Yankees fans, in which case they love that.)
But that doesn't mean fans side with the owners over the players. They are at least as likely to blame the owners. There is a standard complaint about pro sports labor stoppages about how it is "millionaires fighting with billionaires", and fans tend to blame both sides for not being able to resolve their problems.

RIP vin scully. gone at 94. This makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. I've always been partial to Jack Buck's call on Gibson's famous homer. I didn't realize Scully was still alive. Both Scully and Bill Russell in the same week.

I read a tweet yesterday talking about Hosmer and his no trade clause - 'Hosmer is so adverse to the air, that he sent his no trade response via UPS - Ground.' What Hosmer could have been had he been able to hit the ball in the air.

The L.A. Angels' season in a nutshell: seven (!!) home runs tonight against the godawful Oakland A's...and they still lost.

Saw the cardinals beat the Yankees 1-0 on Saturday. Saw pujols walk to lead off the bottom of the eighth. The guy has 686 career HR and 680 doubles. Both top 5 all time. Man how scary good would he have been if he didn't have to deal with nagging foot problems?

Looking like Astros and mets in October for all the marbles.

Looking like Astros and mets in October for all the marbles. Mariners won 116 games in the 2001 regular season and didn't get to the World Series. Baseball playoffs are like that.

Yeah, they lost to that Yankees dynasty which then lost to the Diamondbacks (only their fourth season--first was 1998) in one of the best World Series ever.

Yeah, they lost to that Yankees dynasty which then lost to the Diamondbacks (only their fourth season--first was 1998) in one of the best World Series ever. Just being realistic. Dream series is Yankees Dodgers but it's looking very doubtful that it will happen. Neither team has enough aces to get that far. Really hoping I'm wrong. Considering they haven't faced each other since 1981 it's long overdue IMO. Really tired of Houston.
