Wow I need to rewatch that second set comeback/service run Ran had. Japan was not playing all that great for the first 1.5 sets, for every kill they had it seemed like they had to hit the next 2 to 3 out of bounds. Nishida continues to be a great OOS outlet though.
Ran may be hitting negative/close to zero but his passing/back row play is elite. I know Yamauchi has been Japan’s top middle for a while but he always looks so lazy to me: makes bad reads, no heat on swings, doesn’t really hustle to close blocks. Murayama looks like the real deal for Japan in the middle: awesome fast twitch reactions to close the block, great penetration, nice swings. Hope he can be a starter pretty soon

I like Yamauchi but he just hasn't been bringing it, which is why I was so disappointed to hear about K. Takahashi being out with COVID. But Murayama is a welcome surprise!

Murayama has been very good, first getting a block touch that led to transition kill but then coming up with a kill on the next point

Oof after that 1st set, I thought it was a wrap for Japan. Really glad they found their fight and synergy.

Japan wins 3-1 after a Nishida bounce. Not the prettiest but a nice win. Serve, block and D got much better as the match went on. Murayama was great off the bench.
The Netherlands kinda just folded after they lost the momentum. Too many errors, passing faltered, and not enough Nimir. checked the stats and Nimir had 16 kills, .333 but that’s low for him lol. Their second middle was also lacking

Idk why the netherlands always starts vangarderen. He is so bad, there is a reason he rides the bench in club

Ishikawa didn't have the offensive match I'd like to see but he sure made up for it with his blocks (5), defense, and serve receive.
I really love this Japan pin trio and that the bench is getting strong enough to sub in for a few rotations to get things back under control.
