Argentina appears to be missing Pereyra (Opp), Poglajen (OH) and Sole (MB)
I read that Sole retired from the NT. Any word on the others since they aren't participating in this tournament?

Iran's roster is missing some interesting jersey numbers: #4 - Marouf (S) #6 - Mousavi (MB) #10 - Ghafour (OPP) I thought I read that Marouf was done with the NT? Am I looking too much into this? I checked the jersey numbers and those are the only interrupted numbers so this has me thinking that some young gun hasn't taken those jersey numbers. Thoughts? Unsure about Mousavi and Ghafour, but I don't think we should expect Marouf to return

Brazil appear to be in trouble if Lucarelli and Leal aren't healthy. Douglas and Mauricio Silva retiring from the NT really put a dent in their OH depth. I don't think M. Souza (MB) retiring really hurts them that much.
My preliminary observation: This team appears to have over used their vets and now the youth in the pipeline is raw and untested.
The jury is still out on whether they will right the ship. The rest of their Olympians are on the wide roster, including Wallace. I still think they make the top 8.

He appears to have been with the team for a while but his connections seem a bit off. Some of his sets to the left pin were reeeeeeally bad this week.

I was thinking hmm maybe Canada's win over Bulgaria is a little silver lining for them.
But I looked at their upcoming schedule... in round 2 Canada plays Australia, Poland, Serbia, and Iran. Maybe a little bit easier for them on paper compared to week 1, but still some tough matches. Iran has some players not on the week 1 roster who they could bring in week 2 and they could be better (Salehi, Mojarad, Karimi).
Week 3 for them is Argentina, Brazil, Japan, USA. In Japan.

Will Nikolov stay in the NCAA after this summer? He probably has some pro teams making offers yes, he still needs to learn to pass, tool blocks better, still a lot of development, he would benefit from another two years now whether that is worth it to him to defer some money. but he is only 18 DeFalco had similar options after his soph year.

Just can't see him staying 4 years, and he'll probably get a degree in 3 anyway.

Awesome to see Nikolov and Rado playing together. The current and future of the Bulgaria NT. 🇧🇬

How did Mark Lebedew end up coaching Slovenia? How was their coach from the 2021 season not invited back? Australia will probably get relegated this year. Just a hunch. Lebedew didn't seem to do the Volley Roos any favors IMO. Lebedew did them zero favors. He left that NT wrecked. I'm not sure what's the deal with Slovenia. I thought Giuliani was doing a fantastic job developing them and keep that squad motivated. Not sure if there was disappointment in their VNL performance last year? I thought they were great and had an upward trajectory. I can't see that continuing with Lebedew though.

Vadi wasn't Marouf's backup in the Olympics, that was Javad Karimisouchelmaei, a 208 cm giant with a powerful serve. He has suffered a long term injury so it is questionable when he will return if at all.

Awesome to see Nikolov and Rado playing together. The current and future of the Bulgaria NT. 🇧🇬 Parapunov really isn't a reliable young player for Bulgarian NT. His run in NCAA didn't do him any good on the pro stage.
Nikolov is the one with massive potential that's already delivering. He's way too good for NCAA, he should get tf out of there. He's wasting his time.

Slovenia has close to zero reliable players on the bench, the big disadvantage of such a small country. Most of their starters are already in their thirties, so outside of Mozic, Slovenia has very young players available in the pipeline.

Just can't see him staying 4 years, and he'll probably get a degree in 3 anyway. As to “better” debatable? ?? There are teams in NCAA who can barely make float serves, can’t pass free balls, and block like 14 year olds. That develops bad habits, and it showed in the game against Canada (a middling international team). Long Beach might develop passing “better” than bulgaria(probably not though), but everything else is just at a lower level which has given him some bad habits. He’s already the OH1 for a damn national team, he’s past NCAA level and I’m sure all of his coaches/family/pro teammates are in his ear saying not to be playing against 18 year olds who can’t even pass free balls. If I was at Nikolovs level I certainly would not stay at Long Beach and I think it would be an absolute detriment to his career to stay, there’s nothing left to prove that he can’t do at a higher level. It’s like Lebron averaging 30/15/15 in NCAA then having the same stats /role at the olympics, there’s no point in holding yourself to a lower standard by staying in a low level league like NCAA.
